Bile salt independent retinyl ester hydrolases in the bovine eye
Brain Research Bulletin, 1992Homogenates of bovine neuroretina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) were incubated with 11-cis and all-trans retinyl palmitate to study retinyl ester hydrolysis. The highest activity was found in RPE when 11-cis retinyl palmitate served as substrate (Km = 7.8 microM and Vmax = 44.8 pmol/min/mg).

Effect of stanol ester on postabsorptive squalene and retinyl palmitate
Metabolism, 2000Stanol ester dissolved in margarine inhibits cholesterol absorption in general and, despite increasing cholesterol synthesis, decreases serum total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, but its effects on postprandial lipid metabolism are unknown.

Characterization of rat liver cytosol retinyl ester lipoprotein complex
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1979Abstract A soluble high molecular weight lipoprotein complex containing retinyl esters and unesterified retinol was isolated from rat liver cytosol. This material accounts for about 10% of the total liver retinyl compounds, and its protein moiety accounts for about 0.1% of the protein of the liver homogenate and about 0.7% of the cytosol protein. Retinyl ester (vitamin A ester) and carotenoid composition in human liver.
International journal for vitamin and nutrition research. Internationale Zeitschrift fur Vitamin- und Ernahrungsforschung. Journal international de vitaminologie et de nutrition, 1991Surgical liver biopsy samples from seven diseased and five healthy human subjects, 3-33 years of age, were analyzed by reversed-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography for retinol (vitamin A alcohol), retinyl esters (vitamin A esters), and carotenoids. Total liver vitamin A values ranged from 7.8 to 2860 nmol/g liver (2.2 to 817 micrograms/g).

Temperature-programmed non-aqueous electrochromatographic separation of retinyl esters
Journal of Separation Science, 2001An in-house assembled electrochromatograph was used for temperature-controlled non-aqueous electrochromatography. Reversed-phase separations of retinyl esters were performed on continuous bed columns. The continuous bed columns were prepared by sol-gel bonding of C 30 material in 180 μm internal diameter fused silica capillaries.
