Decreased hepatic retinyl palmitate hydrolase activity in protein-deficient rats [PDF]

open access: greenBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1986
28-day-old weanling rats were fed a diet containing 3% casein as the only source of protein for eight weeks to induce protein deficiency. When compared to control animals (fed a diet containing 25% casein), these rats had significantly lowered body (5.2-fold reduction) and liver (2.5-fold reduction) weights.

A frequently occurring mutation in the lipoprotein lipase gene (Asn291Ser) results in altered postprandial chylomicron triglyceride and retinyl palmitate response in normolipidemic carriers.

open access: hybridJournal of Lipid Research, 1996
An Asn291Ser mutation in exon 6 of the lipoprotein lipase gene (LPL) frequently occurs in Caucasians (2-4%) and results in a partial catalytic defect.

Olestra Ingestion and Retinyl Palmitate Absorption in Humans , , [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Journal of Nutrition, 1997
This study examined the effect of olestra, a zero-calorie fat replacement, on the absorption of retinyl palmitate in humans. After a 30-d adaptation period during which they consumed 10 g olestra/d in potato chips under free-living conditions, 68 healthy male subjects were housed in a metabolic ward and given a single dose of retinyl palmitate (0.33 ...

Spontaneous Transfer of Retinoic Acid, Retinyl Acetate, and Retinyl Palmitate between Single Unilamellar Vesicles

open access: hybridJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1989
The transfer of retinoic acid, retinyl acetate, and retinyl palmitate between single unilamellar vesicles was studied by resonance energy transfer. The retinoic acid transfers spontaneously between single unilamellar vesicles with a first order rate constant of 9.6 s-1 at 15 degrees C and pH 7.4.

Postprandial Retinyl Palmitate and Squalene Metabolism Is Age Dependent [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, 2000
Most of our awake time is spent in a postprandial state. It has not been investigated in detail whether the post-prandial clearance of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins is age dependent. In addition, postabsorptive squalene metabolism has not been studied in relation to age.
