Microencapsulation of retinyl palmitate by melt dispersion for cosmetic application

Journal of Microencapsulation, 2020
Retinyl palmitate was encapsulated in wax matrix by melt dispersion for the purpose of economic and sustainable cosmeceutical formulation with minimum use of synthetic chemicals. We evaluated the effect of different process variables of microencapsulation by melt dispersion.

Positive impact of retinyl palmitate in leukoplakia of the larynx

European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 1997
Laryngeal leukoplakia can be a premalignant precursor of squamous cell carcinoma, is often tobacco-related and can usually be readily monitored by indirect laryngoscopy. One of the main motivations for using retinyl palmitate in patients with persistent leukoplakia was to avoid general anesthesia for elderly patients, who are considered to be high-risk

Retinol and retinyl palmitate in fetal mice liver: sexual dimorphism

Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2014
We determined retinoids liver content in male and female mice fetuses to study a possible sex difference during prenatal development, and to ascertain if vitamin A metabolism is similar in both sexes. The study was performed between developmental days E15-E19, and the fetuses were collected from two main groups: control (no manipulation) and vitamin A (

Effect of Apolipoprotein E Polymorphism on Fasting Retinyl Palmitate Level

Biochemical and Molecular Medicine, 1995
The effect of apolipoprotein E (apo E) common genotypes on fasting retinyl palmitate (RP) level was studied in 344 white individuals, of which 130 had intimal thickening of the carotid artery ("cases") and 214 were controls. In this sample the common apo E genotypes possessed a statistically significant effect on fasting RP level in cases, while in ...

Effect of stanol ester on postabsorptive squalene and retinyl palmitate

Metabolism, 2000
Stanol ester dissolved in margarine inhibits cholesterol absorption in general and, despite increasing cholesterol synthesis, decreases serum total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, but its effects on postprandial lipid metabolism are unknown.

Levels of retinyl palmitate and retinol in the stratum corneum, epidermis, and dermis of female SKH-1 mice topically treated with retinyl palmitate

Toxicology and Industrial Health, 2006
Retinyl esters are the storage form of vitamin A in skin, and retinyl palmitate (RP) accounts for the majority of the retinyl esters endogenously formed in skin. RP is also obtained exogenously through the topical application of cosmetic and skin care products that contain RP.

Cis/trans isomerization of retinyl palmitate in foods

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1987

Hydrolysis of cis and trans isomers of retinyl palmitate by retinyl ester hydrolase of pig liver

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1988
Relative retinyl ester hydrolase activities of pig liver homogenates (n = 4) toward 9,13-cis-, 13-cis-, 9-cis-, and all-trans-retinyl palmitate were 6.8 +/- 0.5 (SE), 5.7 +/- 0.5, 2.4 +/- 0.1, and 1, respectively. The range of apparent Km values for the four isomers was 142 to 268 microM, and the pH optima were 8-9 in all cases.

RETINYL PALMITATE DECREASES THE PEROXIDATION OF POLYSORBATE 80

Toxicology Methods, 1997
Vitamin A has antioxidant activity, although it is not considered a conventional antioxidant. Polysorbate 80 (polyoxyethylene sorbitan monoleate) is an unsaturated compound, an oleate ester of sorbitol, used as a wetting agent and emulsifier in ophthalmic solutions.
