Circular Retrodirective Arrays for Launch Vehicles

open access: yes, 2019
This paper will present recent findings relating to the feasibility of a circular self-tracking (retrodirective) antenna array for launch vehicle applications. Circular retrodirective arrays (RDAs), are comprised of a single ring of elements placed on a cylindrical ground plane. A breadboard of a circular RDA has already been built and measured at QUB.

Designing a Passive Retrodirective Wireless Sensor

IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, 2017
This letter presents a wireless sensing approach implemented using a fully passive sensor element and a retrodirective antenna array. The utilized sensor is based on frequency modulation, and the proposed concept is investigated both theoretically and experimentally.

Implementation and Testing of a Retrodirective Cross-Eye Jammer [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2022
One of the few electronic attack techniques that can deceive radars in angle is cross-eye jamming, which mimics the naturally-occurring phenomenon glint. The extreme tolerance requirements of cross-eye jamming mean that a retrodirective implementation is required, but published measurements of cross-eye jamming either ignore the retrodirective ...

Response analysis of monopulse radar under retrodirective and non-retrodirective cross-eye jamming

2016 CIE International Conference on Radar (RADAR), 2016
With the development of the ECM technology, cross-eye jamming technique becomes more and more practical. In order to study ECCM method for this jamming, retrodirective cross-eye and non-retrodirective cross-eye were studied and analyzed. The mathematical model of monopulse radar's sum signal and difference signal under cross-eye jamming is established ...

Retrodirective arrays for wireless communications

IEEE Microwave Magazine, 2002
This article reports the recent progress in active and passive retrodirective arrays using phase-conjugation techniques. The arrays presented here are designed for wireless communications in microwave bands and have other features in addition to self-phasing aspects such that they can be applied to practical communication systems.

Phase‐conjugating retrodirective cross‐eye jamming [PDF]

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2020
A cross‐eye jammer based on a phase‐conjugating (PC) retrodirective array is proposed. Such PC cross‐eye jammers eliminate the delay inherent in traditional Van‐Atta (VA) cross‐eye jammers and induce errors in radars that use the same antenna beam for ...

Retrodirective Array Performance in the Presence of Near Field Obstructions

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2010
We investigate the situation where there are obstructing elements present in the near field of a retrodirective array. We describe three scattering cases, (1) by an array of straight wires, (2) by low loss medium density fibre board partially obscuring ...
