Reconfigurable metasurface array for diverse retrodirective reflections and radar cross section reduction. [PDF]

open access: yesNanophotonics
Retroreflectors can scatter the arbitrarily incident wave back to incoming direction, demonstrating great potential in wireless communication. However, there are limitations in adaptive retroreflection and polarization modulation with the existing ...

Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of N-Bit Reconfigurable Retrodirective Metasurface [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science
The PIN diode-based N-bit reconfigurable retrodirective metasurface (N-bit RRDM) is a next-generation retro-reflector that offers the advantages of effective electronical control of the retro-reflection angle, low loss, and thin planar structure. However,

Wideband Ultrathin Retrodirective Metasurface Based on Anisotropic Unit Cell

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation
A novel wideband ultrathin planar retrodirective metasurface (RMS) is proposed. The structure is composed of anisotropic wideband retrodirective unit cells (WRUs), achieving retroreflection of the TE polarized wave from 6.8 GHz to 8 GHz at 30° of ...

Multiangle retrodirective cascaded metasurface [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 2019
In this paper, a cascaded retrodirective metasurface is designed and demonstrated to operate simultaneously at a wide range of incident angles from −30° to −10° and 10° to 30°. It is based on the design of several retrodirective super-cells following the generalized Snell’s law of reflection, where each super-cell is designed to redirect an incoming ...

One-Dimensionally Polarization-Independent Retrodirective Metasurface [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, 2019
A one-dimensionally polarization-independent retrodirective metasurface (PIRMS) is proposed in this letter. The retrodirective metasurface (RMS) consists of ring structures on its ground plane to achieve the polarization-independent characteristics.

Retrodirective metasurfaces from non-reciprocal to reciprocal using impedance modulation for high-super-cell-periodicity designs [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics A, 2020
The growing popularity of metasurfaces and their exceptional physical phenomena has gained remarkable interest in terms of propagation and electromagnetic wave control. Particularly, for the case of retroreflection, retrodirective gradient metasurfaces are well known for their reciprocal responses in terms of retroreflection specially for subwavelength

Neural Network–Assisted Metasurface Retroreflector With Wide‐Angle Adaptivity

open access: yesElectron, Volume 4, Issue 2, May 2026.
This work proposes a wide‐angle, multi‐polarization, self‐sensing, and self‐adaptive intelligent metasurface retroreflector, with a planar profile and ultrathin thickness. By integrating a pre‐trained artificial neural network (ANN), the metasurface retroreflector can recognize the incident angle and promptly adapt to changes in the incoming wave.
