Ultracompact Retrodirective Antenna Arrays With Superdirective Radiation Patterns [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2016
It is shown that the direction-of-arrival (DoA) information carried by an incident electromagnetic (EM) wave can be encoded into the evanescent near field of an electrically small resonance antenna array with a spatial rate higher than that of the incident field oscillation rate in free space.

Experimental Study of Electrically Compact Retrodirective Monopole Antenna Arrays [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2017
Auto-pointing and angular super-resolution properties of the radiation patterns generated by an electrically compact retrodirective monopole antenna array are demonstrated experimentally for the first time. The operation of electrically compact (element spacings less than one-fifth of the radiation wavelength) retrodirective antenna arrays that were ...

A Tri‐Functional Active Reconfigurable Retrodirective Array

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas &Propagation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper presents a broadband active reconfigurable retrodirective array system operating from 6.4 to 11.2 GHz, which integrates a filtering magneto‐electric dipole antenna with inherent out‐of‐band suppression and a function‐switching network to support three modes: absorption, active retrodirective array and active phased array.

Reconfigurable metasurface array for diverse retrodirective reflections and radar cross section reduction. [PDF]

open access: yesNanophotonics
Abstract Retroreflectors can scatter the arbitrarily incident wave back to incoming direction, demonstrating great potential in wireless communication. However, there are limitations in adaptive retroreflection and polarization modulation with the existing retroreflectors. In this paper, a novel metasurface array with a reconfigurable transmission line

Validation of a Large Retrodirective CASSIOPeiA Solar Power Satellite Antenna Array

open access: yes2024 18th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP)
The CASSIOPeiA Solar power satellite (SPS) helix antenna array concept has been shown to provide a viable concept with no mechanical rotational joints required between the photovoltaic cells and the antenna. The important feature of the CASSIOPeiA antenna is that it can provide 360 degrees azimuth electronic beam steering, pointing a highly directional

Maxwell Fisheye Lens Based Retrodirective Array. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2019
A Maxwell fisheye lens using parallel plate index grading is presented in this study to develop a passive retrodirective antenna array. As a proof-of-concept a design frequency of 10 GHz was selected for fabrication and experiment.

Development in ambient backscatter communications

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas &Propagation, Volume 17, Issue 13, Page 963-973, October 2023., 2023
In this paper, we conduct an up‐to‐date review of one branch of BackCom systems, namely Ambient BackCom, which utilises the already available ambient signals, instead of a dedicated radio frequency (RF) carrier in most of the BackCom works, to establish BackCom links.

Analysis of outboard cross‐eye jamming using an unmanned platform

open access: yesIET Signal Processing, Volume 17, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
This study establishes the theoretical mathematical framework to illustrate the positive effects of outboard configuration on the jamming effect and proves the feasibility of using an unmanned platform to implement outboard cross‐eye jamming. Abstract To address the problem and reduce the risk wherein a ship‐based cross‐eye jammer could set a protected

Synthesis‐free backscatter directional modulation communication using Van‐Atta arrays

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas &Propagation, Volume 16, Issue 10, Page 654-659, August 2022., 2022
Abstract Backscatter communication, an emerging ultra‐low‐power wireless communication paradigm, has been studied as a promising solution for wireless communications in some Internet‐of‐Things (IoT) applications. The required ubiquitous data transmission in the IoT world is demanding information security.

A model for non‐ideal retrodirective channels in non‐line‐of‐sight geometry

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 58, Issue 10, Page 382-384, May 2022., 2022
Abstract Backscatter radio communication typically has less reliability than conventional radio links, hindering adaptation. Retrodirective arrays have been shown to enhance the link with gain and a recently‐observed resistance to small‐scale fading. However, the statistical advantages of retrodirective backscatter channels have only been theoretically
