Progress in retrodirective arrays for wireless communications
Proceedings of the 16th International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices & IC's, 2004Summary form only given. In contrast to conventional beam steering in a phased-array antenna, a retrodirective antenna is self-steering, and does not require any externally controlled phase shifters. This feature has attracted recent interest for wireless and satellite communication applications. This paper reviews retrodirective antenna array research

A Retrodirective Array with Interference Rejection Capability
IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2005., 2005A retrodirective array with interference rejection capability is presented. Signals from two sources (one desired and one interfering) are first detected and then a null is formed in sub-arrays at each element in the retrodirective array and directed toward the unwanted signal.

Retrodirective Phased Array Antenna for CubeSats
2019 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2019This paper discusses the design of a retrodirective phased array antenna for CubeSat applications. A phased array antenna can offer high gain and beamforming capabilities to small satellites. Retrodirective capabilities allow the communication system to autonomously determine the direction of an incoming signal without prior knowledge, and form the ...

A frequency autonomous retrodirective array transponder
2002 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest (Cat. No.02CH37278), 2003Retrodirective arrays are able to radiate a signal in response to a signal transmitted by an interrogator back toward the transmitter position with no a priori knowledge of the arrival direction. We present a novel architecture that enables the retrodirective array to respond to an interrogator at the same transmitted frequency with no previous ...

Moving forward in retrodirective antenna arrays
IEEE Potentials, 2003Antenna arrays are individual radiating elements combined so that they function and perform like a single large antenna. Besides high radiating beam directionality, antenna arrays offer the capability to scan the main beam and control sidelobe radiation electronically. Retrodirective antenna arrays, as the name suggests, have a special feature.

An active retrodirective array for satellite communications
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1964The concept and design of an active retrodirective array, resulting from the specialized requirements and constraints of space/earth communications, is presented. The advantages of employing active microwave gain are discussed. The attendant problem of instability is defined and several aspects of the solution, namely frequency offsetting and ...

Analysis and characterization of PLL-based retrodirective array
We present a new phase-locked loop (PLL) architecture that is capable of providing phase conjugation as required for retrodirective array action. An analysis is performed on the architecture, which shows that the presence of nonlinear mixing products ...

5.8 GHz full duplex amplitude shift keying retrodirective interrogator array
This article describes a practical demonstration of a complete full-duplex “amplitude shift keying (ASK)” retrodirective radio frequency identification (RFID) transceiver array. The interrogator incorporates a “retrodirective array (RDA)” with a dual ...

Polarization friendly retrodirective antenna array
2012 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2012A polarization friendly rectrodirective array (RDA) is presented. The proposed RDA can receive any polarization and always retransmit the signal back to the interrogator with the predictable (orthogonal) polarization. This added feature can mitigate polarization mismatch loss and provide a more secure communication link.

Balanced subharmonic mixers for retrodirective-array applications
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2001The drawback of conventional Pon retrodirective antenna systems is the requirement of a local oscillator (LO) working at approximately twice the receive frequency. This limits the use of these systems to rather moderate frequencies where such an oscillator can be obtained.
