We report a previously healthy 8-year-old boy who presented to the hospital with a palpable abdominal mass, fever and abdominal pain. CT and MRI scans confirmed a large mass that was centered in the retroperitoneum. The lesion was biopsied and the histology showed branching hyphae.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is an uncommon inflammatory disorder, which often has significant clinical ramifications. The symptoms are nonspecific, and the diagnosis is typically made with computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging. In our patient, the diagnosis was first suggested by sonography and confirmed on CT. This report illustrates

SUMMARYFive cases of retroperitoneal lymphangioma are presented. In three patients the lesions were symptomatic, with resolution of the symptoms following resection. In two elderly patients the lesions were asymptomatic. Ultrasound demonstrated masses that ranged from 4 to 15cm in maximal extent, and which were predominantly anechoic.

AbstractRetroperitoneal sarcomas are rare malignant tumors, accounting for approximately 10‐20% of all soft tissue sarcomas. Because of their anatomic location and indolent nature, these tumors are usually quite extensive when first detected with little hope of improvement in the early detection rate.

A case of retroperitoneal seminoma is discussed, emphasizing the importance of diagnosing the primary lesion. Although the testes were normal to palpation and exploration a focus of seminoma was recognized in the left testicle. We prefer radical treatment of this potentially curable disease.
