Idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (Sclerosing retroperitonitis)
Human Pathology, 1987Three cases of idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis, one of which was localized to the perirenal area, are presented. The predominance of plasma cells, which may be difficult to recognize because of distortion unless methyl green-pyronine staining is done, and the character of the fibrous tissue indicated the non-neoplastic nature of the processes. This

Retroperitoneal teratoma is the third most common primary retroperitoneal neoplasm of childhood ranking behind neuroblastoma and nephroblastoma. Ten per cent of these tumors are malignant. Two cases of benign retroperitoneal teratoma are reported, and the first description of the angiographic appearance of such a tumor is presented.

We report a previously healthy 8-year-old boy who presented to the hospital with a palpable abdominal mass, fever and abdominal pain. CT and MRI scans confirmed a large mass that was centered in the retroperitoneum. The lesion was biopsied and the histology showed branching hyphae.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is an uncommon inflammatory disorder, which often has significant clinical ramifications. The symptoms are nonspecific, and the diagnosis is typically made with computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging. In our patient, the diagnosis was first suggested by sonography and confirmed on CT. This report illustrates

SUMMARYFive cases of retroperitoneal lymphangioma are presented. In three patients the lesions were symptomatic, with resolution of the symptoms following resection. In two elderly patients the lesions were asymptomatic. Ultrasound demonstrated masses that ranged from 4 to 15cm in maximal extent, and which were predominantly anechoic.

Retroperitoneal schwannomas are rare, benign tumors. The aim of this study is to present our surgical experience with 7 such tumors.Between 1989 and 2004, 7 patients with pathologically proven retroperitoneal schwannomas were reviewed retrospectively. There were 6 male patients and 1 female patient, with a mean age of 43 years (range, 23 to 58 years ...

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a condition characterized by the presence of inflammation and fibrosis in the retroperitoneal space, for which no standard diagnostic criteria exist. Historically, treatment has focused on relieving the obstruction with percutaneous or cystoscopic assisted placement of ureteral stents followed by more definitive ...

AbstractRetroperitoneal sarcomas are rare malignant tumors, accounting for approximately 10‐20% of all soft tissue sarcomas. Because of their anatomic location and indolent nature, these tumors are usually quite extensive when first detected with little hope of improvement in the early detection rate.

A case of retroperitoneal seminoma is discussed, emphasizing the importance of diagnosing the primary lesion. Although the testes were normal to palpation and exploration a focus of seminoma was recognized in the left testicle. We prefer radical treatment of this potentially curable disease.
