Estimation of return levels with long return periods for extreme sea levels in a time-varying framework [PDF]
AbstractAt nuclear power plants, risk analysis concerning environmental extremes is crucial. Based on historical data, estimation of return levels is usually performed. For long return periods, a problem is that the related uncertainties of the return levels often get large. Moreover, models need to take into account possible effects of climate change.

Future Patterns of Compound Dry and Hot Summers and Their Link to Soil Moisture Droughts in Europe
Compound dry and hot extreme (CDHE) summers in Europe, like 2015, 2018 and 2022, have wide ranging impacts: heat exacerbates moisture shortages during dry periods whereas water demand rises. Current studies of CDHE are mostly conducted in observations or

Impact of the horizontal resolution on the simulation of extremes in COSMO-CLM
The simulation of extremes using climate models is still a challenging task. Currently, the model grid horizontal resolution of state-of-the art regional climate models (RCMs) is about 11–25 km, which may still be too coarse to represent local extremes ...

State-level COVID-19 outbreak and stock returns
We use state-level data to evaluate the connection between outbreaks of COVID-19 and stock returns over the period January-June 2020. We show that daily increases in the number of infected cases, hospitalized cases, and deaths are negatively associated with next day stock returns of firms headquartered in the same state.
