Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Investigating the Effect of Relative Firms Profitability on Stock Return Sensitivity to Industry-Level News [PDF]

open access: yesمجله دانش حسابداری, 2014
Relative firm profitability within industry as a measure of competitiveness reflects the business strengths and weaknesses of the firm, and affects the reaction of stock returns to industry-level news.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

Stock Return Synchronicity and Analysts’ Forecast Properties

open access: yesGadjah Mada International Journal of Business, 2016
Using stock return synchronicity as a measure of a firm’s information environment, our research investigates how the firms’ stock return synchronicity affects analysts’ forecast properties for the accuracy and optimism of the analysts’ annual earnings ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

A generalized extreme value approach for the analysis of stationary climatic covariate in a Mediterranean city

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters
Extreme value theory (EVT) is used as univariate extreme value analysis (EVA) in order to analyze and model the covariates temperature, relative humidity (RH) and the thermal comfort index (humidex) issued from a dataset of 38 years in Tunis.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Nonparametric Kernel Distribution Function Estimation with kerdiest: An R Package for Bandwidth Choice and Applications

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2012
The R package kerdiest has been designed for computing kernel estimators of the distribution function and other related functions. Because of its usefulness in real applications, the bandwidth parameter selection problem has been considered, and a cross ...

Pain level as a predictor of return to work [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Spine Journal, 2003
Dear Editor, In a interesting recent report in your journal [3], Kool et al. attempted to predict return to work in a group of patients with chronic low back pain (LBP) in a prospective study design. They found through regression analysis that behavioral signs (Waddell signs), the Step Test, the pseudo strength test and pain levels of 9 or 10 on a ...
