High-spatial-resolution observations of NH3 and CH3OH towards the massive twin cores NGC6334 I & I(N)

open access: yes, 2005
Molecular line observations of NH3 (J,K)=(1,1), (2,2) and CH3OH at 24.93GHz taken with the Australian Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) toward the massive twin cores NGC6334 I & I(N) reveal significant variations in the line emission between the two massive

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

The complex morphology of the young disk MWC 758: Spirals and dust clumps around a large cavity

open access: yes, 2018
We present Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) observations at an angular resolution of 0.1-0.2" of the disk surrounding the young Herbig Ae star MWC 758. The data consist of images of the dust continuum emission recorded at 0.88 millimeter, as well as

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Bidirectional to unidirectional emission of fluorescence controlled by optical traveling wave antennas

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2019
Tailoring the fluorescence emission of quantum emitters to a desired direction is a crucial issue to achieve high efficient photodetection and realize unique optoelectronic devices.

Toward a standard Gamma Ray Burst: tight correlations between the prompt and the afterglow plateau phase emission

open access: yes, 2011
To reveal and understand astrophysical processes responsible for the Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) phenomenon, it is crucial to discover and understand relations between their observational properties.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Fenceline measurements reveal regional disparities in United States refinery benzene emissions and emission sources

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
United States petroleum refineries have measured fenceline ambient concentrations of benzene since 2018 to comply with an Environmental Protection Agency rule. Benzene is a known carcinogen that is present in most fugitive emissions from refineries.

Optical and Infrared Imaging and Spectroscopy of the Multiple-Shell Planetary Nebula NGC 6369

open access: yes, 2011
NGC 6369 is a double-shell planetary nebula (PN) consisting of a bright annular inner shell with faint bipolar extensions and a filamentary envelope. We have used ground- and space-based narrow-band optical and near-IR images, broad-band mid-IR images ...

Revealing the global emission gaps for fully fluorinated greenhouse gases

open access: yesScientific Reports
AbstractIn response to the global trend of climate change, it is important to accurately quantify emissions of fully fluorinated greenhouse gases (FFGHGs, referring to SF6/NF3/CF4/C2F6/C3F8/c-C4F8 here). Atmospheric observation-based top-down methods and activity-based bottom-up methods are usually used together to estimate FFGHG emissions at the ...
