Learning to find spatially reversed sounds [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
AbstractAdaptation to systematic visual distortions is well-documented but there is little evidence of similar adaptation to radical changes in audition. We use a pseudophone to transpose the sound streams arriving at the left and right ears, evaluating the perceptual effects it provokes and the possibility of learning to locate sounds in the reversed ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Snake Optimization Algorithm Augmented by Adaptive t-Distribution Mixed Mutation and Its Application in Energy Storage System Capacity Optimization

open access: yesBiomimetics
To address the drawbacks of the traditional snake optimization method, such as a random population initialization, slow convergence speed, and low accuracy, an adaptive t-distribution mixed mutation snake optimization strategy is proposed.

Threat rapidly discrupts Reward Reversal Learning

open access: yesBehaviour Research and Therapy, 2019
Threat changes cognition to facilitate adaptive coping. However, when threat becomes overwhelming, this may be deleterious for mental health especially in vulnerable individuals. Flexible decision-making was probed with a reward reversal task to investigate, how well healthy participants (N=34) can adapt to changes in reward contingency when they ...

Human in the Loop: Interactive Passive Automata Learning via Evidence-Driven State-Merging Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present an interactive version of an evidence-driven state-merging (EDSM) algorithm for learning variants of finite state automata. Learning these automata often amounts to recovering or reverse engineering the model generating the data despite noisy,

Memory Based Online Learning of Deep Representations from Video Streams

open access: yes, 2017
We present a novel online unsupervised method for face identity learning from video streams. The method exploits deep face descriptors together with a memory based learning mechanism that takes advantage of the temporal coherence of visual data ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Improved adaptive ant colony algorithm by incorporating multiple strategies

open access: yesNantong Daxue xuebao. Ziran kexue ban
To address the problems of slow convergence and local optima entrapment in the ant colony algorithm(ACO), this paper proposes an improved ant colony algorithm(IACO) integrating multiple strategies.
