Heterogeneous metabolic response of endothelial cells from different vascular beds to experimental hyperglycaemia and metformin

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Diabetes mellitus is associated with vascular pathology that leads to vascular complications in several tissues, such as retinopathy of the eye. Endothelial dysfunction plays a pivotal role in the progression of each complication.

Impaired angiogenesis in gestational diabetes is linked to succinate/SUCNR1 axis dysregulation in late gestation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) impacts on succinate metabolism and angiogenesis in the umbilical cord endothelium. (Left Panel) Succinate levels increase in both maternal and fetal circulation at delivery, with higher concentrations observed in GDM pregnancies compared to controls during late gestation.

The X‐Linked Intellectual Disability Gene, ZDHHC9 , Is Important for Oligodendrocyte Subtype Determination and Myelination

open access: yesGlia, Volume 73, Issue 7, Page 1452-1466, July 2025.
Main Points Zdhhc9 ablation grossly changes gene expression and myelin protein levels in CNS WM. Zdhhc9 is important for the establishment of mature oligodendrocyte subtypes. Zdhhc9 is important for axon myelination and the maintenance of myelin integrity.

Obesity‐Induced Metabolic Priming Exacerbates SARS‐CoV‐2 Inflammation

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 175, Issue 3, Page 323-338, July 2025.
Monocytes primed under obesogenic conditions, such as increased FFA levels (i.e., palmitate) exhibit exacerbated gene expression of inflammatory cytokines. The increased proinflammatory response of palmitate‐primed and SARS‐CoV‐2‐infected monocytes is not dependent on glycolytic metabolism but instead on the entry of FFAs into the mitochondria ...

Functional Characterization and Heterogeneity Analysis of Ribosomal Proteins in Mouse Preimplantation Embryos

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 11, 15 June 2025.
We selected and investigated six ribosomal proteins in the early mouse embryo. Knocking down these ribosomal proteins generally had inhibitory effects on the morula‐to‐blastocyst transition, but the details and degree of these effects varied. This provides a new example of ribosome heterogeneity in preimplantation embryos.

Inhibition of acyl‐CoA synthetase long‐chain isozymes decreases multiple myeloma cell proliferation and causes mitochondrial dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 6, Page 1687-1706, June 2025.
Triacsin C inhibition of the acyl‐CoA synthetase long chain (ACSL) family decreases multiple myeloma cell survival, proliferation, mitochondrial respiration, and membrane potential. Made with Biorender.com. Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer of plasma cells with a 5‐year survival rate of 59%.
