Prognostic implications of the high sensitivity C-reactive protein to albumin ratio for major cardiovascular adverse events in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery

open access: yesScientific Reports
The prognostic significance of the C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery has not been conclusively determined.

Age‐related differences in hydroxychloroquine‐associated adverse events: A pharmacovigilance study based on the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims This real‐world pharmacovigilance study utilizes FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) data (2004–2024) to characterize age‐related disparities in hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)‐associated adverse events (AEs), addressing gaps in age‐stratified risk assessment. Methods Disproportionality analysis (reporting odds ratios, RORs) and parametric Weibull

Efficacy, safety and cost‐effectiveness of CAR‐T therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
CAR T‐cells demonstrate high efficacy in blood cancers, including ALL, MM and DLBCL. Innovations target solid tumours despite challenges such as antigen escape. Combination therapies enhance the delivery and infiltration of CAR T cells. Toxicity, cost and resistance remain major barriers to clinical use.

Loss of hepatic SMLR1 causes hepatosteatosis and protects against atherosclerosis due to decreased hepatic VLDL secretion

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The role of SMLR1 in lipid metabolism (high fat + cholesterol diet in mice) Abstract Background and Aims The assembly and secretion of VLDL from the liver, a pathway that affects hepatic and plasma lipids, remains incompletely understood. We set out to identify players in the VLDL biogenesis pathway by identifying genes that are co‐expressed with the ...

Incremental value of high-sensitive troponin T in addition to the revised cardiac index for peri-operative risk stratification in non-cardiac surgery

open access: yes, 2017
Aims We aimed to evaluate the incremental value of high-sensitive troponin T (hsTnT) for risk prediction prior to non-cardiac surgery in comparison with the established revised cardiac index.

Comparison of preoperative NT-proBNP and simple cardiac risk scores for predicting postoperative morbidity after non-cardiac surgery with intermediate or high surgical risk

open access: yesPerioperative Medicine
Background Chronic heart failure (HF) is frequent in elderly patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Preoperative risk stratification is vital and can be achieved using simple clinical risk scores or preoperative N-terminal prohormone of brain ...

Therapeutic drug monitoring of antimicrobials in a paediatric setting: A retrospective single‐centre study

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Paediatric pharmacokinetics differ significantly from adults due to age‐related physiological changes, necessitating precise dose adjustments. However, data on therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) implementation in paediatric setting remain limited.

Natural history of liver disease in a large international cohort of children with Alagille syndrome: Results from the GALA study

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Natural history of liver disease in a large international cohort of children with Alagille syndrome: Results from the GALA study. Abstract Background and Aims Alagille syndrome (ALGS) is a multisystem disorder, characterized by cholestasis. Existing outcome data are largely derived from tertiary centers, and real‐world data are lacking.

A risk score for predicting 30-day mortality in heart failure patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundHeart failure is an established risk factor for poor outcomes in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery, yet risk stratification remains a clinical challenge. We developed an index for 30-day mortality risk prediction in this particular group.
