Medial Patellar Instability Following Total Knee Arthroplasty

open access: yesArthroplasty Today
Although lateral patellar instability has been discussed as a complication following total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there are no published reports of medial patellar instability.

Pie‐crusting the medial collateral ligament is a safe and effective technique for improving visualisation and access in arthroscopic meniscal surgery: A systematic review

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To assess the safety, effectiveness, and postoperative outcomes of medial collateral ligament (MCL) pie‐crusting (PC) in arthroscopic meniscus surgery. Methods This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines.

A high rate of falls and traumatic fractures occurs after extensor mechanism reconstruction: a cohort study including both allograft and synthetic mesh grafts

open access: yesArthroplasty
Background Extensor mechanism disruption following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) significantly impairs knee function and quality of life. Extensor mechanism reconstruction (EMR) is effective but carries risks, including post-operative falls due to ...

Recent trends in revision knee arthroplasty in Germany

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
We aimed to answer the following questions: (1) How did numbers of revision knee arthroplasty procedures develop in Germany over the last decade compared to primary TKA? (2) How high was the percentage of septic interventions in knee prosthesis revisions?

Abduction and adduction malpositioned lateral radiographs cannot be used for proper assessment of the posterior tibial slope

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare medial posterior tibial slope (mPTS) measurements on abduction/adduction malpositioned versus properly positioned lateral knee radiographs within the same patients. We hypothesized that malpositioning would significantly alter mPTS values and potentially change surgical classification at the commonly used 12° threshold for ...

Learning from the past—A substantial number of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty revisions are potentially avoidable: A radiographic analysis of 98 cases

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics
Purpose Approximately 50% of knee osteoarthritis patients are eligible for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA), but only 10%–15% of knee replacements are UKAs. Higher UKA revision rates may prevent broader implementation.

Total femoral allograft with simultaneous revision total hip and knee arthroplasty: 18 year follow-up

open access: yesArthroplasty Today, 2015
Massive allograft can be a useful option in revision total joint arthroplasty for treatment of significant bone loss. In rare cases, revision hip and knee arthroplasty procedures can be performed simultaneously using massive allograft-prosthetic ...

Dynamic coronal plane knee alignment: Femoral anatomy determines kinematic curve morphology, tibial anatomy determines curve position

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose A single hip–knee–ankle angle (HKA) angle does not reflect the biomechanics of native, arthritic or prosthetic knees. Since HKA varies throughout flexion, dynamic coronal alignment is best represented by a kinematic curve plotting HKA against the range of motion.

Prior osteosynthesis—unlike osteotomy—raises revision risk after total knee arthroplasty, predominantly via periprosthetic infection

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Previous knee surgery is discussed as a risk factor for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), yet most reports do not distinguish between osteotomy and osteosynthesis. The German Operationen‐ und Prozedurenschlüssel (OPS)‐based classification was used to compare the impact of these procedures on implant survival, mortality and complications ...

Our results of revision total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, 2021
From 1987 to 1997, thirty-one revision total knee arthhroplasties (TKA) performed in 30 patients with failed primary TKA were studied to determine the short-term clinical and roentgenographic results. There were 29 females and 1 male. The mean age was 65.
