Successful resuscitation in severe accidental hypothermia : a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
ArticleThe original publication is available at http://www.samj.org.zaAccidental hypothermia has a mortality rate of 30-80% and should always be borne in mind with comatose, hypotensive patients.

Recovery of rewarming after hypothermic hyperglycaemia.

open access: yesSouth African medical journal = Suid-Afrikaanse tydskrif vir geneeskunde, 1975
Severe hypothermia may lead to hypo- or hyperglycaemia. We report two cases of the latter, less common, condition in which the blood glucose levels were 638 and 580 mg/l00 ml. The glucose levels in both cases fell rapidly on rewarming, without any exogenous insulin and despite one patient being an insulin-requiring diabetic.

Efecto de tres modalidades de crioterapia sobre la temperatura de la piel durante las fases de enfriamiento y recalentamiento Effects of three cold modalities on skin temperature during the cooling and rewarming phases

open access: yesSalud UIS, 2011
Introducción: La crioterapia es útil en el manejo de las lesiones músculo esqueléticas, debido a los efectos derivados del enfriamiento tisular, sin embargo, pocos estudios han evaluado la efectividad de distintas modalidades de crioterapia para mantener

Gradual rewarming with a hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier improves viability of donation after circulatory death in rat livers

open access: yesFrontiers in Transplantation
BackgroundDonation after circulatory death (DCD) grafts are vital for increasing available donor organs. Gradual rewarming during machine perfusion has proven effective in mitigating reperfusion injury and enhancing graft quality.

Rewarming from hypothermia. Newer aspects on the pathophysiology of rewarming shock.

open access: yesInternational journal of circumpolar health, 2001
The fatal circulatory derangements often observed when resuscitating victims of accidental hypothermia by rewarming are recognized as a falling cardiac output and a sudden drop in blood pressure, termed "rewarming shock". The real cause of this rewarming shock, or rewarming collapse, is, so far, unknown.

Effect of wet clothing removal on skin temperature in subjects exposed to cold and wrapped in a vapor barrier: a human, randomized, crossover field study

open access: yesBMC Emergency Medicine
Background Prehospital care for cold-stressed and hypothermic patients focuses on effective insulation and rewarming. When encountering patients wearing wet clothing, rescuers can either remove the wet clothing before isolating the patient or isolate the

Therapeutic Hypothermia for Traumatic Brain Injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Experimental evidence demonstrates that therapeutic temperature modulation with the use of mild induced hypothermia (MIH, defined as the maintenance of body temperature at 32-35°C) exerts significant neuroprotection and attenuates secondary cerebral ...
