Direct comparison of endothelial cell and smooth muscle cell response to supercooling and rewarming

open access: yes, 2007
Background: Cryoplasty combines mechanical dilatation with the delivery of hypothermia to atherosclerotic plaques. The response of vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and endothelial cells (ECs) to supercooling and subsequent rewarming is still not clear.

Effect of wet clothing removal on skin temperature in subjects exposed to cold and wrapped in a vapor barrier: a human, randomized, crossover field study

open access: yesBMC Emergency Medicine
Background Prehospital care for cold-stressed and hypothermic patients focuses on effective insulation and rewarming. When encountering patients wearing wet clothing, rescuers can either remove the wet clothing before isolating the patient or isolate the

Recovery of rewarming after hypothermic hyperglycaemia.

open access: yesSouth African medical journal = Suid-Afrikaanse tydskrif vir geneeskunde, 1975
Severe hypothermia may lead to hypo- or hyperglycaemia. We report two cases of the latter, less common, condition in which the blood glucose levels were 638 and 580 mg/l00 ml. The glucose levels in both cases fell rapidly on rewarming, without any exogenous insulin and despite one patient being an insulin-requiring diabetic.

A comparative rewarming trial of gastric versus peritoneal lavage in a hypothermic model.

open access: yes, 1990
A comparison of gastric lavage versus peritoneal lavage rewarming was studied in a hypothermic rabbit model. The gastric lavage group (n = 5) had a mean rewarming time of 136 +/- 25.1 minutes versus the peritoneal lavage group (n = 6) mean rewarming time

Device Design for the Rapid Ultrasonic Rewarming of Alginate Beads and Cryoprotectant Solution to Improve Cryopreservation Recovery [PDF]

open access: yes
Ultrasonic rewarming is a new method for improving cryopreservation recovery. We developed an ultrasonic rewarming device and control algorithm for the rapid and repeatable rewarming of cryopreserved biological media in cryovials.
