Cryopreservation of winter-dormant apple: III Bud water status and survival after cooling to -30°c and during recovery from cryopreservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In a continuing study to improve the efficiency of dormant bud cryopreservation for tissues hardened in maritime climates, the water status of dormant buds was monitored between -4°C and recovery from liquid nitrogen (LN). Measurement of water content,

Hypothermia for encephalopathy in low-income and middle-income countries: feasibility of whole-body cooling using a low-cost servo-controlled device

open access: yes, 2018
Although therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the standard of care for hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy in high-income countries, the safety and efficacy of this therapy in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) is unknown.

The prognostic value of cerebral oxygen saturation measurement for assessing prognosis after cardiopulmonary resuscitation

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Anestesiologia
Background: Despite new improvements on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), brain damage is very often after resuscitation. Objective: To assess the prognostic value of cerebral oxygen saturation measurement (rSO2) for assessing prognosis on patients ...

Mild (34 °C) versus moderate hypothermia (24 °C) in a swine model of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation

open access: yesResuscitation Plus
Background: The role of hypothermia in post-arrest neuroprotection is controversial. Animal studies suggest potential benefits with lower temperatures, but high-fidelity ECPR models evaluating temperatures below 30 °C are lacking.

In Vitro Arrhythmia Generation by Mild Hypothermia - a Pitchfork Bifurcation Type Process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceThe neurological damage after cardiac arrest (CA) constitutes a big challenge of hospital discharge. The therapeutic hypothermia (34°C-32°C) has shown its benefit to reduce cerebral oxygen demand and improve neurological outcomes ...

Recovery of rewarming after hypothermic hyperglycaemia.

open access: yesSouth African medical journal = Suid-Afrikaanse tydskrif vir geneeskunde, 1975
Severe hypothermia may lead to hypo- or hyperglycaemia. We report two cases of the latter, less common, condition in which the blood glucose levels were 638 and 580 mg/l00 ml. The glucose levels in both cases fell rapidly on rewarming, without any exogenous insulin and despite one patient being an insulin-requiring diabetic.
