Chemical Engineering Science, 2009Abstract The normalized Reynolds (NR-) stress is a symmetric, non-negative, dyadic-valued operator. An analysis of the hydrodynamic equation governing velocity fluctuations of a constant property Newtonian fluid shows that this operator is related to a prestress operator that is also symmetric and non-negative.

Reynolds Stress Models for Shock-Turbulence Interaction
2019A systematic deficiency of current turbulence models which are based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) is their inability to correctly predict the interaction of turbulence with shocks. This is because RANS models do not account for the unsteady motion or fragmentation of the shock wave within the interaction zone.

Reynolds Stress Deflections of the Bivane Anemometer
Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1980Abstract We show that a bivane anemometer or other elevation angle sensing device records a nonzero mean angle when responding to cross-correlated fluctuations in a mean wind. Our analysis shows how this mean offset can be used to derive the wind-aligned Reynolds stress directly. This theory is applied to a historical data set.
