Gross brain morphology of Rhamdia quelen (Quoy & Gaimard 1824) (Ostariophysi: Siluriformes: Heptapteridae)

open access: yesPapéis Avulsos de Zoologia, 2018
The brain gross morphology of Rhamdia quelen is described and compared with seven species of six genera of Heptapteridae. Interspecific variation in shape, size, and position of brain subdivisions was observed in all examined species.

Phylogeography of Hypostomus strigaticeps (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) inferred by mitochondrial DNA reveals its distribution in the upper Paraná River basin. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this study, phylogenetic and phylogeographic analyses of populations identified as Hypostomus strigaticeps from the upper Paraná River basin were conducted in order to test whether these different populations comprises cryptic species or structured ...

Occurrence of natural triploidy in Rhamdia quelen (Siluriformes, Heptapteridae)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2010
Five specimens of Rhamdia quelen collected from the Lindóia Stream, PR, Brazil, were cytogenetically analyzed. The diploid chromosome number found was 58, including 30 metacentric, 16 submetacentric, 10 subtelocentric, and 2 acrocentric chromosomes. Supernumerary or B chromosomes, frequently observed in this fish group, were not detected.

Plant‐Derived Treatments for Monogenean Parasites in Farmed Fish: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Monogeneans are among the most problematic ectoparasites in finfish aquaculture. Plant‐derived compounds have been widely explored as therapeutic agents, yet their efficacy and safety have not been quantitatively synthesized across studies. This study provides a meta‐analysis of plant‐based treatments against monogeneans, integrating 453 in ...

Intestinal responses in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) exposed to fasting and refeeding nutritional management

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 3, Page 663-673, March 2026.
Abstract Fasting is a practice in the aquaculture industry that aims to reduce feed costs. This practice can affect the gastrointestinal system of fish. The intestine plays a pivotal role in the nutrition and overall health of fishes. The present study sought to evaluate the effects of fasting and refeeding on body weight, intestine somatic index (ISI),

Genetic variability of captive populations of Rhamdia quelen (Teleostei: Pimelodidae) using microsatellite markers

open access: yesBiotemas, 2017
The analysis of genetic variability in populations that are candidates for breeding programs is important for selecting a base population, which maximizes genetic divergence.

A contribution to the checklist of fishes of San Luis province, Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
San Luis province presents arheic and endorheic basins that are poorly understood in terms of their ichthyological composition. The samples taken recently from the main basins of this province have yielded data of undisputed biogeographic value for the ...
