Rhemata

open access: yesThe Southern Journal of Philosophy, Volume 61, Issue 4, Page 553-568, December 2023., 2023
Abstract The article offers an analysis of Peirce's notion of “rhema.” It examines and explains Peirce's definition of the rhema; it identifies and solves two problems that are direct consequences of the definition. The first problem is that proper names, while classified as rhemata, do not satisfy Peirce's definition of the rhema.

Optionality of Movement

open access: yesSyntax, Volume 23, Issue 4, Page 347-374, December 2020., 2020
Abstract This article looks at constructions involving optional movement of contrastive foci and argues that this type of reordering cannot be accounted for by assuming that it is driven by a syntactic feature. I maintain that an interface‐based approach that rests on the principles of economy fares better at capturing the data, as it accounts not only
