Colonic Adenocarcinoma in Rhesus Macaques

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 2001
Colon cancer is the second most common cause of cancer mortality in human beings, but relatively few cases have been described in macaques. The present report documents two fatal cases of colon cancer in aged rhesus macaques. Case 1 was a 20-year-old female in which extensive invasion of the caecum by a scirrhous adenocarcinoma led to perforation and a

Cognitive Imitation in Rhesus Macaques

Science, 2004
Experiments on imitation typically evaluate a student's ability to copy some feature of an expert's motor behavior. Here, we describe a type of observational learning in which a student copies a cognitive rule rather than a specific motor action. Two rhesus macaques were trained to respond, in a prescribed order, to different sets of photographs that ...

Rhesus macaque

1992
Abstract The rhesus monkey has a larger geographical distribution than almost any other primate (Smith et al. 1987). Its range extends from India and Afghanistan in the west to China and Vietnam in the east (Roonwal and Mohnot 1977). It is not listed in the IUCN red data book (IUCN 1990).

A new vaccine for tuberculosis in rhesus macaques

Nature Medicine, 2018
In a recent study using cytomegalovirus (CMV)-vectored vaccines in rhesus macaques, prevention of tuberculosis in over 40% of vaccinated animals is shown and is attributed to reprogrammed innate immunity and CMV's maintenance of vaccine-elicited effector memory T cells.

Haemoglobin Polymorphism in the Rhesus Macaque

Nature New Biology, 1972
INTRASPECIFIC polymorphism of the principal haemoglobin component is common among macaque monkeys1–3 and other non-human primates4–9, but although electrophoretically demonstrable it has not been found in populations of rhesus monkeys (M. mulatto)10,11.

ENDOMETRIOSIS AND A PARAOVARIAN CYST IN A RHESUS MACAQUE

Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound, 1999
We describe endometriosis in an aged rhesus macaque. There was a large mass and a related paraovarian cyst, typical of the disease. Endometriosis is a common finding in nonhuman primate. In this report, we also review the pathophysiology of the disease and summarize the historical and more recent relevant literature.
