The rheumatoid factors

Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1963
GENERAL reviews of rheumatoid arthritis serology summarized knowledge as of 1957 and 1959 [l, 21. The Current Status of the Rheumutoid Factor was the title of a publication appearing early in 1962 [3]. It is the author’s aim to emphasize developments of the past 3 years within the framework of a limited general review.

Rheumatoid factors in rheumatoid arthritis and vasculitis

Rheumatology International, 1985
To study the occurrence of rheumatoid factors (RF) in relation to the activity of rheumatoid arthritis and the occurrence of vasculitis, RF of IgM, IgA, and IgG classes were measured in sera from 35 patients with definite or classic rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using ELISA.

Purification of the rheumatoid factor

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1964
Abstract A preparation of rheumatoid factor was obtained from a pooled rheumatoid serum by absorption to diphtheria toxoid-human antitoxin precipitate, subsequent elution by lowering the pH, and gel nitration of the eluent. The isolated rheumatoid factor was homogeneous in the analytical ultracentrifuge and in immunoelectropho-resis.

IgE rheumatoid factor [PDF]

open access: possibleExperientia, 1981
A solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for detecting class-specific rheumatoid factors (RF) has been devised. IgE RF, which has not been reported yet, was found in sera from 3 of approximately 100 rheumatoid patients.

Rheumatoid Factors

2014
Rheumatoid factors (RFs) are autoantibodies reacting against the Fc region of immunoglobulin (Ig)G. RFs are the first autoantibodies described in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), although they are also present in several other autoimmune diseases, in infectious conditions, as well as in healthy subjects.

Isolating the Rheumatoid Factor

Acta Rheumatologica Scandinavica, 1959
SummaryA large number of tests have been tried with a view to making differential diagnoses in collagen diseases. The hemagglutination test has proved to be the most valuable.By using the methods of fractionating in cold, zone-electrophoresis, chromatography with a cation exchanger and ultracentrifuging it has been found possible to purify in a high ...

The Rheumatoid Factors [PDF]

open access: possibleArchives of Internal Medicine, 1959
The term rheumatoid factors has been applied to a class of closely related proteins that are responsible for a variety of serological reactions currently employed for the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. A marked intensification of interest in these factors has developed during the past two years, primarily because there is an intuitive feeling that ...

Specificity of a Rheumatoid Factor

Acta Rheumatologica Scandinavica, 1961
SummaryStudies on the gamma globulin (Gm) groups have shown that a rheumatoid factor may have a remarkable specificity concerning its ability to react with gamma globulin from different individuals. The »specific» hemagglutinating substances of the Gm system and the substance responsible for the positive Waaler-Rose test are probably closely related ...

The Utility of the Rheumatoid Factor

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1993
The conclusions made by Shmerling and Delbanco 1 regarding the utility of rheumatoid factor (RF) in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) came as a bit of a surprise, seemingly reversing conventional thinking. Although we can agree, based on their data, that RF is, at times, ordered inappropriately (ie, in the absence of joint complaints), we find

Rheumatoid factor revisited

Current Opinion in Rheumatology, 2004
Initial studies of the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis focused on the role of rheumatoid factor and immune complex-associated vasculitis and synovitis. Subsequent work has delineated T cell responses, the role of cytokines, chemokines, and the aggressive nature of rheumatoid synovitis.
