ABSTRACT Whether gene flow acts as a creative or constraining force on local adaptation is a fundamental question in evolutionary biology, yet its role in the evolution of sexually selected traits remains poorly understood. Here we combine whole‐genome and functional analyses to investigate how geological isolation is associated with the evolution of ...

Early synapsids neurosensory diversity revealed by CT and synchrotron scanning
Abstract Non‐mammaliaform synapsids (NMS) represent the closest relatives of today's mammals among the early amniotes. Exploring their brain and nervous system is key to understanding how mammals evolved. Here, using CT and Synchrotron scanning, we document for the first time three extreme cases of neurosensory and behavioral adaptations that probe ...

The study introduces the Nutshell eDNA sampler, an inexpensive, reusable passive device for collecting environmental DNA from air to monitor terrestrial biodiversity. Tested at the Rotterdam Zoo, it detected numerous species and complimented active samplers in identifying zoo animals, continuing to accumulate DNA over longer sampling times and ...

Amphibians like Fowler's Toad are vital to ecosystems but face population declines, prompting conservation efforts through captive breeding programs. This study examined how captivity and diet influence the fungal gut microbiome (mycobiome) in wild‐caught toads using metabarcoding.

Primary structure of an adipokinetic neuropeptide from the Rhinoceros Beetle, Oryctes rhinoceros L (Coleoptera: Dynastidae) [PDF]
Neuropeptides play an important role in cellular communication in vertebrates. This is also true for insects in which many physiological, developmental and behavioral processes are affected by neuropeptides produced in neurosecretory cells of the retrocerebral complex.

Insect‐Derived Bioactives for Glycemic Control and Gut Health: A Review
Insect‐derived bioactive compounds (e.g., peptides, polysaccharides) effectively regulate blood glucose through dual mechanisms: directly inhibiting carbohydrate‐digesting enzymes and glucose transporters, and indirectly modulating gut microbiota to enhance intestinal barrier integrity.

doublesex regulates sexual dimorphism in elytral color patterns of Harmonia axyridis by downregulating the color patterning gene h in males. This regulatory link diverged in derived color morphs, coinciding with the loss of sex‐specific elytral color patterns.

Indigenous Management Practices to Reduce Pests and Pathogens of Cash Crops in Agroforestry Systems
The crop with the highest damages was cocoa (63.9% plants affected by black pod disease), followed by Fusarium stem rot was the second highest damage in crops (30.0% of vanilla plants infected). Insecticides and fungicides do not have a significant impact in reducing pest and pathogen infestation.
