A taxonomic review of the Rhinotermitidae (Isoptera) of Thailand [PDF]
Ninety series of rhinotermitid termites were collected from 19 localities distributed across much of Thailand, and compared with specimens deposited in the NHML. Eleven species belonging to five genera of Rhinotermitidae are recorded from Thailand.

Chemical defense secretions of some species of Malaysian rhinotermitidae (Isoptera, Rhinotermitidae)
Journal of Chemical Ecology, 1990The defense secretions of the soldiers of the Malaysian rhinotermitid,Parrhinotermes aequalis (Havilandi) andP. pygmaeus (John),Termitogeton planus (Havilandi) andSchedorhinotermes malaccensis (Holmgren) consist mainly of vinyl ketones, whereas that ofProrhinotermes flavus (Bugnion & Popoff) gives (E)-1-nitropentadecene.

Molecular phylogeny of the Rhinotermitidae
Insectes Sociaux, 2004Relationships among genera in the termite family Rhinotermitidae and their relationship to the families Termitidae and Serritermitidae were investigated based on analysis of three mitochondrial genes: COI, COII and 16S rDNA. Maximum Parsimony (MP) bootstrap analysis of each of these genes indicated a low level of phylogenetic incongruence between them,

Chemical alarm in the termite Termitogeton planus (Rhinotermitidae)
Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2014Effective defense is a common characteristic of insect societies. Indeed, the occurrence of specialized defenders, soldiers, has been the first step toward eusociality in several independent lineages, including termites. Among the multitude of defensive strategies used by termite soldiers, defense by chemicals plays a crucial role.

Agonistic Behavior of the Termite Prorhinotermes canalifrons (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)
Journal of Insect Behavior, 2008While intercolonial and interspecific agonism has been broadly documented in termites, detailed studies of individual behavior and its differentiation among castes are scarce. We studied the responses of non-reproductive castes of Prorhinotermes canalifrons (pseudergates, presoldiers, soldiers of different age and artificial intercastes) to conspecific

Dispersal Flights of the Formosan Subterranean Termite (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)
Journal of Economic Entomology, 2015The Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki, is a pest of major economic concern. This termite is particularly known for its tendency to establish populations in nonendemic areas via maritime vessels as well as human-aided transport of infested materials. The natural spread of this species after new introductions occurs in part by
