Rhizomucor miehei Aspartic Proteinases Having Improved Properties

1998
Aspartic proteinases are widely spread in most organisms, where they carry out many different functions. The oldest and most well–known use of aspartic proteinases is as coagulants in cheese–making. The coagulants are probably still the only commercial products containing aspartic proteinases as the active substance.

Animal models of Zygomycosis – Absidia, Rhizopus, Rhizomucor, and Cunninghamella

Mycopathologia, 2001
Infections caused by zygomycetes, which have been increasing in recent years, are known for their difficulty of diagnosis and treatment. Because little is known about this fungus and its infection, vigorous research is now in serious demand. As in many other systemic mycoses, animal model studies are essential in the investigation of zygomycosis ...

Analysis of the Dynamics ofRhizomucor mieheiLipase at Different Temperatures

Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 1999
The dynamics of Rhizomucor miehei lipase has been studied by molecular dynamics simulations at temperatures ranging from 200-500K. Simulations carried out in periodic boundary conditions and using explicit water molecules were performed for 400 ps at each temperature.

Activity and stability of a Rhizomucor miehei lipase in hydrophobic media

Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, 1997
The effects of detergents and organic solvents on a commercial lipase (Lipozyme) from Rhizomucor miehei were investigated. It was shown that the detergent sodium cholate is possibly an activator of the enzyme, increasing lipase activity 2.5 times (250% of the control) when the enzyme was preincubated with 7 mM cholate.

Characterization of alg2 encoding a mannosyltransferase in the zygomycete fungus Rhizomucor pusillus

Gene, 1998
ALG2 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae encodes the glycosyltransferase that mannosylates Man2GlcNAc2-dolichol diphosphate (PP-Dol) and Man1GlcNAc2-PP-Dol to form Man3GlcNAc2-PP-Dol. The genomic DNA and cDNA encoding an ALG2 homologue were cloned from the zygomycete fungus, Rhizomucor pusillus, and their nucleotide sequences were determined.

Investigation and Management of a Rhizomucor Outbreak in a Pediatric Cancer Hospital in Egypt

Pediatric Blood & Cancer, 2015
We describe an outbreak of mucormycosis in a pediatric oncology hospital during December 2010 and the measures taken to stop it. The outbreak began with two consecutive cases of laboratory‐documented mucormycosis infections within 1 week. Investigations to track the source were conducted immediately. Air plate cultures from machines and ducts supplying

Modeling of solvent effects in the activation of the lipase from Rhizomucor miehei

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 1996
the effects of water and hydrophobic solvents on the stability of the open and closed forms of R. miehei lipase were evaluated with different solvent models. Desolvation of arginine 86 at the water-lipid interface plays a key role in the activation process, while the contribution from hydrophobic stabilization of the open form is less important.

Primary Cutaneous Mucormycosis Caused by Rhizomucor variabilis in an Immunocompetent Patient

Mycopathologia, 2009
Primary cutaneous mucormycosis is an uncommon disease and occurs mainly in patients with immunocompromised disorders. We report a case of cutaneous mucormycosis in an immunocompetent man in whom no definite precipitating factors were noted. The isolate was identified as Rhizomucor variabilis according to the fungus morphology and DNA sequencing results.

Induced azygospore formation in Mucor (Rhizomucor) pusillus by Absidia corymbifera

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1976
Attempts to determine the mating reaction type of heterothallic strains of Mucor pusillus in interspecific contrasts with Mucor strains of known mating reaction type were unsuccessful. Contrasts with Absidia corymbifera strains resulted in the production of azygospores in Mucor pusillus.
