Functional Diversity and Community Composition of Soil Fungi Associated With Canopy Dieback in Araucaria araucana Forests of Contrasting Edaphic Conditions

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Soil fungal communities associated with Araucaria araucana differ primarily according to site edaphic conditions rather than tree health status. Restrictive, nutrient‐poor soils are linked to higher canopy dieback and distinct functional community shifts, with symptomatic trees harbouring stress‐tolerant taxa and asymptomatic trees supporting ...

Complete Genome of an Alkali‐Resistant Rhizobium anhuiense Symbiont of Pea Reveals Species‐Specific Plasmid Fusion and Genomic Plasticity

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Rhizobium anhuiense strain Xianghu001 is an alkali‐tolerant, nitrogen‐fixing symbiont isolated from pea (Pisum sativum) root nodules. Genome sequencing revealed a lineage‐specific megaplasmid fusion and high plasmid plasticity. Functional assays confirmed its plant growth‐promoting traits, including increased total nitrogen content and IAA production ...

Bacterial Diversity and Functional Dynamics in the Soybean (Glycine max L.) Rhizosphere Under Different Organic Fertilisation

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Soybean (Glycine max L.) rhizosphere responses to organic fertilisation remain unknown. This study used 16S rRNA sequencing to assess microbial diversity under cattle dung and poultry manure. Results showed distinct community shifts, improved soil nutrients and stable core metabolic functions, highlighting organic inputs as sustainable strategies for ...

Diversity, Composition and Resilience of the Root Microbiome of Tomato Plants in a Hydroponic Rockwool System

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
The root microbiome of tomatoes in hydroponic rockwool was species‐rich but dominated by a few abundant organisms. Treatment with a Trichoderma‐based biocontrol product did not perturb the bacterial microbiome. Composition and diversity of the bacterial community changed over the sampling period in both treated and control samples.

Towards Key Principles of Host‐Associated Microbiome Assembly

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 29, Issue 6, June 2026.
Symbiotic relationships between microbes and hosts frequently involve the assembly of complex microbial communities (i.e., the microbiome). Microbiome composition and function influence host life‐history traits, ecological trajectories of partners, and are often critical for host health.

Production Performance and Ameliorative Effects of Switchgrass on Severely Saline‐Alkali Land in Coastal Areas of China

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 6, June 2026.
Switchgrass cultivation sustained biomass production while rapidly improving soil structure and reducing salinity in coastal saline‐alkali soils. These changes reshaped microbial communities through environmental filtering, establishing plant‐soil‐microbe feedbacks that support both bioenergy production and ecological restoration.
