Why the lowest electronic excitations of rhodamines are overestimated by time-dependent density functional theory

open access: yes, 2018
Rhodamines are widely used as laser dyes and fluorescent probes due to their excellent photophysical and photochemical properties. Previous theoretical studies have shown that the lowest excitation energies of rhodamines are overestimated systematically ...

Oxidative electrofluorochromism of rhodamine in electropolymerized rhodamine-carbazole dyads

open access: yesSynthetic Metals
A rhodamine-carbazole dyad has been synthesized and electropolymerized to generate thin films. The spectroelectrochemical properties of the resulting polymer are investigated both in absorption and emission. We show that the luminescence of the rhodamine unit is partially quenched by the carbazole moiety and this quenching is strongly enhanced upon ...

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.

Near‐Infrared Light‐Driven Zn/Au Janus Micromotors for Multiplex SERS Detection of Anticancer Drugs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Zn/Au Janus micromotors, propelled by thermophoretic effects under NIR light, function as active SERS platforms for single and multiplex detection of anticancer drugs. Their dynamic motion enhances analyte exchange at the Au interface, reducing saturation and competitive adsorption, thereby improving sensitivity and extending the linear detection range.

Synthesis of a dihalogenated pyridinyl silicon rhodamine for mitochondrial imaging by a halogen dance rearrangement

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
Background: Since their first synthesis, silicon xanthenes and the subsequently developed silicon rhodamines (SiR) gained a lot of attention as attractive fluorescence dyes offering a broad field of application.

Synthesis of 5- and 6-Carboxy-X-rhodamines

open access: yes, 2015
An efficient route is reported to 5- and 6-carboxy-X-rhodamines (compounds 1 and 2) that contain multiple n-propylene or γ,γ-dimethylpropylene groups bridging terminal nitrogen atoms and the central xanthene core.

Robust Synthesis of NIR-Emissive P-Rhodamine Fluorophores

open access: yes, 2020
P-rhodamines were accessed by implementing a robust three step sequence consisting of (i) addition of m-metallated anilines to dichlorophosphine oxides, (ii) selective dibromination, and (iii) cyclization of the diaryllithium reagents derived from the ...
