Hemoculture and Polymerase Chain Reaction Using Primers TCZ1/TCZ2 for the Diagnosis of Canine and Feline Trypanosomiasis

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Introduction. American trypanosomiasis, also known as Chagas disease, is a zoonosis caused by Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi). Dogs and cats participate actively in this parasite′s transmission cycle. This study aimed at evaluating the occurrence of T. cruzi in dogs and cats from Botucatu, SP, Brazil, as well as at evaluating the technique of hemoculture ...

Fungal flora of the digestive tract of Rhodnius prolixus, Rhodnius neglectus, Diptelanogaster maximus and Panstrongylus megistus, vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi, Chagas, 1909 [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology, 2004
This paper reports a study on the mycobiota in the digestive tract of four important species of triatomines: Rhodnius prolixus, R. neglectus, Diptelanogaster maximus and Panstrongylus megistus. The digestive tracts of 90 adults and 425 nymphs of these four triatomine species were studied and 365 fungal strains were isolated.

Vital Statistics of Triatominae (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) Under Laboratory Conditions: III. Rhodnius neglectus

open access: yesJournal of Medical Entomology, 2011
Five cohorts of 100 eggs of Rhodnius neglectus Lent 1954 (Hemiptera Reduviidae) were reared simultaneously in the laboratory under constant conditions (26 +/- 1 degrees C and 60 +/- 10% RH), with mortality and fecundity data recorded weekly. We calculated stage-specific developmental times, age-specific mortality and fecundity, stage-specific and total

Estudo comparado do ciclo evolutivo de triatomíneos a duas temperaturas Comparison of life cycles of triatominae according to changes in temperature

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1989
We studied the life cicle of several triatominae species: Dipetalogaster maximus (Uhler, 1894); Panstrongylus herreri Wygodzinsky, 1948; Panstrongylus megistus (Burmeister, 1835); Rhodnius ecuadoriensis Lent & Leon, 1958; Rhodnius nasutus Stal, 1859 ...

Age‐specific mortality analysis of the dry forest kissing bug, Rhodnius neglectus

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 2010
AbstractAge‐specific mortality patterns can be very different across insects with different life histories. Some holometabolous insects (like mosquitoes, fruit flies) show a pattern where mortality rate decelerates at older ages, whereas other holometabolous insects (bruchid beetles) and hemimetabolous insects (cotton stainers, milkweed bugs, and ...
