Identification, Functional Characterization, and Pharmacological Analysis of Two Sulfakinin Receptors in the Medically-Important Insect Rhodnius prolixus

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
The chordate gastrin/cholecystokinin and ecdysozoan sulfakinin (SK)-signaling systems are functionally and structurally homologous. In the present study, we isolated the cDNA sequences encoding the SK receptors in Rhodnius prolixus (Rhopr-SKR-1 and Rhopr-

Aspects of classification of Hemiptera hemocytes from six triatomine species

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1991
The objective of this work was to characterize, and compare different morphological types of hemocytes of Rhodnius prolixus, Rhodnius, Rhodnius neglectus, Triatoma infestans, Panstrongylus megistus, and Dipetalogaster maximus.

Towards an understanding of the interactions of Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rangeli within the reduviid insect host Rhodnius prolixus

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2005
This review outlines aspects on the developmental stages of Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rangeli in the invertebrate host, Rhodnius prolixus. Special attention is given to the interactions of these parasites with gut and hemolymph molecules and the ...

The neuropeptide CCHamide2 regulates diuresis in the Chagas disease vector Rhodnius prolixus

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2019
Given that hematophagous insects ingest large quantities of blood in a single meal, they must undergo a rapid post-prandial diuresis in order to maintain homeostasis.

Biological effect of 1-dodecanol in teneral and post-teneral Rhodnius prolixus and Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera: Reduviidae)

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2005
Topical application of 1-dodecanol was significantly more toxic against teneral first nymphs (1-3 h old) than post-teneral first nymphs (24 h old). The lethal dose ratios were 711,500 for Rhodnius prolixus and 3613 for Triatoma infestans.

Transcriptome-based molecular systematics: Rhodnius montenegrensis (Triatominae) and its position within the Rhodnius prolixus–Rhodnius robustus cryptic–species complex

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2019
Rhodnius montenegrensis (Triatominae), a potential vector of Chagas disease, was described after R. robustus-like bugs from southwestern Amazonia. Mitochondrial cytb sequence near-identity with sympatric R.

Transcriptomic and functional analyses of the piRNA pathway in the Chagas disease vector Rhodnius prolixus

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2018
The piRNA pathway is a surveillance system that guarantees oogenesis and adult fertility in a range of animal species. The pathway is centered on PIWI clade Argonaute proteins and the associated small non-coding RNAs termed piRNAs.

Embryonic piRNAs target horizontally transferred vertebrate transposons in assassin bugs

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
IntroductionPiwi proteins and the associated Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) coordinate a surveillance system that protects the animal genome from DNA damage induced by transposable element (TE) mobilization. While the pathway has been described in detail
