Uric acid synthesis in Rhodnius prolixus
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1970Glycine-1-14C, glycine-2-14C, and sodium formate-14C were used to investigate the origin of the carbon atoms of uric acid in Rhodnius prolixus. As in other uricotelic organisms, the carboxyl carbon of glycine is incorporated into position 4 of uric acid, the alpha carbon of glycine goes to position 5, and the carbon of sodium formate is incorporated ...

Midgut glycosidases of Rhodnius prolixus
Insect Biochemistry, 1984Abstract Through the use of p- nitrophenylglycosides the presence of α- and β-glucosidase, α- and β-galactosidase, α- and β-manosidase, α-fucosidase, β-N- acetylglucosaminidase , α- and β-N- acetylgalactosaminidase activities were detected in the crop and intestine of the blood sucking bug Rhodnius prolixus. All activities have an

Sulfated glycosaminoglycans from ovary of Rhodnius prolixus
Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2001We have characterized sulfated glycosaminoglycans from ovaries of the blood-sucking insect Rhodnius prolixus, and determined parameters of their synthesis and distribution within this organ by biochemical and histochemical procedures. The major sulfated glycosaminoglycan is heparan sulfate while chondroitin 4-sulfate is a minor component.

Molecular characterization of Rhodnius prolixus' embryonic cuticle
Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2014The embryonic cuticle (EC) of Rhodnius prolixus envelopes the entire body of the embryo during hatching and provides physical protection, allowing the embryo to pass through a narrow chorionic border. Most of the knowledge about the EC of insects is derived from studies on ultrastructure and secretion processes during embryonic development, and little ...

THE HEMOCYTES OF RHODNIUS PROLIXUS STÅL
The Biological Bulletin, 19651. The hemocytes of Rhodnius prolixus have been studied with phase contrast microscopy, after supravital staining, and in fixed and stained smears.2. With phase contrast microscopy, the following categories of circulating cells can be readily identified: (a) non-dividing and mitotically-dividing prohemocytes, (b) non-vacuolated and vacuolated ...

Fatty acid incorporation byRhodnius prolixus midgut
Archives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, 2000[(14)C]Oleic acid injected into the hemocoel of Rhodnius prolixus females was shown to rapidly associate with lipophorin particles. Half of the lipophorin-associated [(14)C]oleic acid was transferred in about 5 min to different organs, but the midgut was the main organ to take it up on day 10 after a blood meal.

Juvenoid effects on Rhodnius prolixus embryogenesis
Insect Biochemistry, 1987Abstract Protein electrophoretic techniques demonstrate that the normal patterns of protein synthesis accompanying embryogenesis of Rhodnius prolixus are altered by the juvenoid compound Ro 13.5223 (fenoxycarb). Electrophoretic analysis reveals that embryonic perturbation by fenoxycarb is due in part to alterations in the normal molecular events ...

cDNA cloning and expression of Rhodnius prolixus vitellogenin
Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1993It was shown that Rhodnius prolixus vitellogenin (Vg) is synthesized as precursors of 205 and 190 kDa. Each Vg subunit is antigenically related to a domain in the precursor molecules. Since Vg has been previously detected in R. prolixus male adults, protein synthesis by fat bodies from 5th instar male nymphs was investigated and no Vg synthesis could ...
