Prominent Grazing Rates and Feeding Preferences of an Abundant Exotic Benthic Herbivore in the Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
In this study, we report the potential negative impacts of an exotic herbivore crab (Percnon gibbesi) in Mediterranean benthic habitats. Given the high densities of P. gibbesi found in the field, the large per capita and per area grazing rates quantified experimentally, and the broad generalist diet reported here and elsewhere, the ecological impacts ...

Cyanobacteria or Rhodophyta? Interpretation of a Precambrian microfossil

open access: yesBiosystems, 1990
Discovery and interpretation of a filamentous microfossil from the late Proterozoic Narssârssuk Formation in northwest Greenland approximately 770 Ma is reported here. This microfossil is preserved as a single occurrence in a silicified carbonate sequence containing stromatolitic laminae.

New Insights on the Terpenome of the Red Seaweed Laurencia dendroidea (Florideophyceae, Rhodophyta)

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2015
The red seaweeds belonging to the genus Laurencia are well known as halogenated secondary metabolites producers, mainly terpenoids and acetogennins. Several of these chemicals exhibit important ecological roles and biotechnological applications. However,

New record of Gracilariaphuquocensis (Gracilariaceae, Rhodophyta) in the Philippines. [PDF]

open access: yesPhytoKeys
While reliance on morphology has been at the expense of clearly distinguishing gracilarioid species, molecular data have proven to be more reliable in discriminating between taxa. Gracilaria phuquocensis was originally described, based on materials collected from Vietnam.
