Cultivation of Electrogens With Cost‐Effective Membrane‐Less Bioreactor Designs

open access: yesFuel Cells, Volume 26, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Rational improvements in bioreactor design for scaling up power generation in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are discussed in this study. The potential of autoclavable MFCs for isolating electroactive bacteria that produce sustainable electricity is being investigated.

PFAS properties and destruction methods: A focus on enzymatic degradation

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 6, Page 1126-1152, June 2026.
Abstract Per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are known as ‘forever’ chemicals and have lasting detrimental impact on the environment and living organisms. To understand PFAS molecules better, this review begins with an overview of PFAS definition, classifications and applications, and then provides a comprehensive summary and critical analysis ...

The Curious Case of CysE: Diversity and Distribution of Serine Acetyltransferases in Bacteria

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, Volume 94, Issue 5, Page 1092-1103, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Serine acetyltransferase (CysE) is a member of the left‐handed β‐helix family of acetyltransferases that catalyze the rate limiting step in de novo cysteine biosynthesis. There are two isoforms of CysE that differ in length, with the shorter isoform lacking approximately 76 amino acids at the N‐terminus of the protein from the serine ...

A purple non-sulfur bacterium producing polyhydroxybutyrate and the conserved region of pha synthase gene

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2016
This study aimed to screen purple non-sulfur bacteria capable of accumulating granules or polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) inside the cells, identify the potent strain, assay the enzyme or PHA synthase, and compare the PHB synthase gene with that of related ...

Comparison of Hydrogen Production Efficiency by Rhodopseudomonas palustris MP3 and Rhodopseudomonas harwoodiae SP6 Using an Iron Complex as an Enhancement Factor

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
In the present study, an iron(II)-nanoscale organic complex (Fe-NO) was used as an enhancement factor by two different Rhodopseudomonas species of purple non-sulphur bacteria (PNSB) to produce hydrogen (H2).

The Arsenal of Aromatic Degrading Bacteria: How They Sense, Chase, Adapt and Destroy Environmental Pollutants

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 5, May 2026.
In the environment, bacteria sense aromatic pollutants, migrate toward them, adapt to toxicity, and deploy specialized uptake and catabolic systems. Genomic plasticity, metabolic versatility and division of labor within populations together aid in the degradation of persistent aromatics, highlights that biodegradation is driven by various eco ...

Diazotrophic growth of Rhodopseudomonas acidophila and Rhodopseudomonas capsulata under microaerobic conditions in the dark.

open access: yes, 1980
Diazotrophy of Rhodopseudomonas acidophila and Rhodopseudomonas capsulata was not obligatorily linked to photosynthesis. In the dark R. acidophila grew with dinitrogen as sole nitrogen source at a dissolved oxygen tension of 15 Torr (= 2.0 kPa); the ...

Mapping of Rhodopseudomonas capsulata nif genes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1984
The endogenous gene transfer system of Rhodopseudomonas capsulata was used to analyze mutations which block the ability to use molecular nitrogen as the sole nitrogen source (nif). With this fine-structure mapping tool, linkage of nif mutations could be reliably established if separated by 2,700 base pairs or less.

MicrobeDiscover: A Knowledge Graph–Enabled AI Framework for Identifying Microbes for Inorganic Nanomaterial Biosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
Microbial synthesis of nanomaterials (NMs) is eco‐friendly, but the screening of microorganisms is limited by inefficient traditional methods (currently only involving∽400 microorganisms/90 NMs). We propose AI framework MicrobeDiscover, integrating a knowledge graph of microbe‐NM interactions.
