Action Programs for Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and Paysandisia archon

2017
The spread of invasive alien species is strongly associated with the rapid acceleration of human trade, tourism, transport, and travel over the past century, which have allowed these species to overcome natural geographic barriers. The best strategy to prevent the spread of invasive species is quarantine and eradication of initial foci.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a facultative pathogen of red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus

World Journal of Microbiology & Biotechnology, 1995
Pseudomonas aeruginosa was identified as a facultative pathogen of red palm weevil. Intra-haemocoelic injection of the pathogen within larvae and pre-pupae was more effective at killing the insects [with a median lethal dose (LD50) of 9×10(2) to 2×10(3) bacteria/insect] than inoculation by force feeding (LD50 of 10(5) to 4×10(5) bacteria/insect) or by ...

Transcriptomic study of the red palm weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus embryogenesis

Insect Science, 2014
AbstractThe red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is an invasive, concealed and destructive tissue borer, and it becomes a lethal pest of the palm family of plants and has been reported to attack 20 palm species around the globe.

Rhynchophorus ferrugineus: Behavior, Ecology, and Communication

2016
In this chapter, is described the intraspecific and interspecific behaviors of RPW. In particular, we review studies on the stimuli and factors thatmediate these behaviors, focusing on chemical stimuli and physical factors used by RPWduring the phases of location and selection of the host palm, aggregation of the adults, and subsequent stages.

IPM of the Red Palm Weevil, Rhynchophorus Ferrugineus

2010
The Red Palm Weevil (RPW) Rhynchophorus ferrugineus is the major destructive insect pest of a broad range of palm trees. Infestation by RPW varies in relation to the height and age of palm trees and most likely is restricted to 0–1 m height above soil surface and to palms up to 10 years old.

Control measures against Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and Paysandisia archon

2017
This chapter reviews the current control methods against red palm weevil (RPW, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) and palm borer moth (PBM, Paysandisia archon). Scientific documents covering different features of their bio-ecology and control (legal control, cultural control, biological control, chemical control, and methods using semiochemicals) together with

Visual identification and characterization of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and Paysandisia archon infestation

2017
The invasion of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (red palm weevil, RPW) and Paysandisia archon (palm borer moth, PBM) in the Mediterranean Basin is a major problem for date palm growers and landscape managers, agriculturists, and gardeners, who need to manage these pests.
