Rhythm control in atrial fibrillation

The Lancet, 2016
Many patients with atrial fibrillation have substantial symptoms despite ventricular rate control and require restoration of sinus rhythm to improve their quality of life. Acute restoration (ie, cardioversion) and maintenance of sinus rhythm in patients with atrial fibrillation are referred to as rhythm control. The decision to pursue rhythm control is

Rate control versus rhythm control

Current Opinion in Internal Medicine, 2005
The results of five randomized clinical trials comparing rate control with rhythm control in the management of atrial fibrillation have been published recently. The purpose of this report is to review their main results and selected subanalyses and other related data to offer practical recommendations regarding the treatment of patients with this ...

Heart Rhythm Control During Sleep

Psychophysiology, 1984
ABSTRACTHeart rate (HR) changes during sleep were analyzed, with the aid of a minicomputer, for a group of 20 healthy subjects. In stages 1, 2, 3, and 4, HR decreased against a background of increasing respiratory arrhythmia. REM sleep was characterized by increased HR and decreased respiratory arrhythmia.

Biological rhythms: Hormones under moon control

Current Biology, 2022
Grass puffers are fish that engage in mass spawning controlled by the phase of the moon. A new study shows that prostaglandins released by males and females fine tune these events. In addition, regulation of gnrh1 by a transcription factor expressed in a semilunar rhythm suggests a timing signal for the long-term coordination of gonadal maturation.

Electrical Control of Cardiac Rhythm

Annual Review of Medicine, 1966
No branch of medicine provides better illustration of the close dependency of progress in the clinic upon physiologic understanding than does the study and management of the rhythm of the heart. To a large degree both the phys iologist and the clinical investigator studying the rhythm of the heart have a mutual reliance upon engineering capabilities ...
