Biomacromolecules, 2000
Ribosomes have been visualized in electron micrographs in 1943 but 5S rRNA was discovered 20 years later. The next four decades witnessed big advances in our understanding of the ribosome using biochemical, genetic and low resolution structural approaches.

Terbium binding to ribosomes and ribosomal RNA
Biochemistry, 1975Terbium binding to rat liver ribosomes and ribosomal RNA (rRNA) was examined by equilibrium dialysis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Upon binding to ribosomes and rRNA, the enhancement of terbium fluorescence emission at both 488 and 541 nm was dependent only upon the amount of bound terbium and independent of ionic strength.

Ribosomal RNA and ribosomal proteins in corynebacteria
Journal of Biotechnology, 2003Ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) (16S, 23S, 5S) encoded by the rrn operons and ribosomal proteins play a very important role in the formation of ribosomes and in the control of translation. Five copies of the rrn operon were reported by hybridization studies in Brevibacterium (Corynebacterium) lactofermentum but the genome sequence of Corynebacterium glutamicum ...

Ribosomal RNA on the Surface of Ribosomes
Science, 1963Ribonuclease from pancreas releases nucleotide from Escherichia coli ribosomes while not altering significantly the base composition of the total ribosomal RNA. Ribonuclease hydrolyzes ribsomal RNA without destroying the structure of 70 S or 30 S and 50 S

Ribosomal RNA Synthesis and RNA Polymerase
Nature, 1970MULTIPLE forms of RNA polymerase activity have been isolated from developing sea-urchin embryos, rat liver nuclei and calf thymus1–3. The molecular basis of this heterogeneity is at present unknown but, whatever its basis, the crucial question seems to be whether different enzymes copy different genes.
