Anthropological analysis of projectile trauma to the bony regions of the trunk

open access: yesAnthropological Review, 2017
Ballistics literature often focuses on soft tissue injures and projectile trauma to the cranium. Minimal details on the bony characteristics of projectile trauma to the thorax/abdomen regions have been published.

Fracture of the Second Rib: An Indirect Sign of Serious Trauma Like Fracture of the First Rib?

open access: yesJournal of Chest Surgery, 2023
Background: The first 3 ribs are anatomically well-protected, shielded by the large thoracic muscles, the shoulder girdle, and the arm. A significant force is required to fracture these ribs; thus, such fractures suggest a high-energy trauma and are ...

Exostosis of Rib: Case Report of an Extremely Rare Giant Osteochondroma at an Unusual Site, Radiopathological Correlation with Brief Review of Literature

open access: yesIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, 2021
Osteochondromas are common benign tumors developing as an abnormal bony growth in the metaphyseal region. Being more of a developmental anomaly rather than a true neoplasm, they are usually found around the growth plates of long bones such as the knee ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Effect of Channel Orientation and Rib Pitch-to-Height Ratio on Pressure Drop in a Rotating Square Channel with Ribs on Two Opposite Surfaces

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2005
The effect of channel orientation and rib pitch-to-height ratio on the pressure drop distribution in a rib-roughened channel is an important issue in turbine blade cooling. The present investigation is a study of the overall pressure drop distribution in

Reinforced concrete ribbed slabs with wide-beam

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2018
Ribbed slabs have been widely used in buildings due to their many advantages, especially the decrease of concrete below the neutral line. This paper presents an experimental and computational study on ribbed slabs with wide-beam, two one-way slabs and ...

Method of electroforming a rocket chamber [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
A transpiration cooled rocket chamber is made by forming a porous metal wall on a suitably shaped mandrel. The porous wall may be made of sintered powdered metal, metal fibers sintered on the mandrel or wires woven onto the mandrel and then sintered to ...

Comparative proteomics analysis of teleost intermuscular bones and ribs provides insight into their development

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
BackgroundIntermuscular bones (IBs) and ribs both are a part of skeletal system in teleosts, but with different developing process. The chemical composition of fish IBs and ribs as well as the underlying mechanism about their development have not been ...

Visual Recovery Reflects Cortical MeCP2 Sensitivity in Rett Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Rett syndrome (RTT) is a devastating neurodevelopmental disorder with developmental regression affecting motor, sensory, and cognitive functions. Sensory disruptions contribute to the complex behavioral and cognitive difficulties and represent an important target for therapeutic interventions.
