Electroenzymatic CO2 Fixation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Electroenzymatic CO2 fixation enables energy‐efficient, highly selective synthesis of complex molecules. Unlocking its full potential requires fundamental understanding of electrode‐coupled reductases and carboxylases. This review critically discusses available enzymes, product scope, and key thermodynamic and kinetic considerations, highlighting ...

The effects of bivalent cations on ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1981
The half-saturation constants for binding of the bivalent cations (Mg2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Fe2+ and Mn2+) to ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase from Glycine max and Rhodospirillum rubrum were measured. The values obtained were dependent on the enzyme and the cation present, but were the same for both oxygenase and carboxylase activities.

Microbially driven organic carbon cycling at the land−sea interface: Advances and an integrated study framework

open access: yesmLife, EarlyView.
Abstract The land−sea interface is a vital component of global biogeochemical cycles, where microorganisms drive the cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur. This review synthesizes the research progress from representative land−sea interfaces to elucidate how the microbial community structure and metabolic function influence the mobilization ...

Strategies for modulation and optimization of the photorespiration pathway in plants

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2020
Plant ribulose-1, 5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxidase (Rubisco) has two activities, and the one is carboxylation to assimilate CO2 to produce food for the biosphere, and the other one is oxidation to generate toxic 2-phosphoglycolate to commit the ...

Biosurfactant production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from mining waste: From genomic analysis to development of a polymeric composite for removal of hexavalent chromium

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Biosurfactant was produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa using andiroba waste from Amazonia. A biosurfactant–alginate composite (Alg/BioS) was successfully synthesized via ionotropic gelation, and achieved up to 70% Cr6+ removal from water. Abstract Environmental contamination by heavy metals represents a significant challenge due to their persistence in ...

Fulvic Acid Enhances Oat Growth and Grain Yield Under Drought Deficit by Regulating Ascorbate–Glutathione Cycle, Chlorophyll Synthesis, and Carbon–Assimilation Ability

open access: yesAgronomy
Drought deficit inhibits oat growth and yield. Fulvic acid (FA) can enhance plant stress tolerance, but its effects on regulating the ascorbate–glutathione cycle, chlorophyll synthesis, and carbon–assimilation ability remain unclear.

Low irradiance alters carbon metabolism and delays flower stalk development in two orchids

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2013
In Phalaenopsis, lowering irradiance has been used to delay flower stalk development but the accompanying biochemical changes remain poorly understood. We cultured two commercial Phalaenopsis-type orchids, Phalaenopsis cv.

Effect of Carbonic Anhydrase on the Activity of Ribulose Bisphosphate Carboxylase

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 1980
At concentrations of C02 less than saturating, carbonic anhydrase (EC 4.2.1.1) stimulates the carboxylation of ribulose bisphosphate catalysed by ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase (EC 4.1.1.3.9) in vitro. This is not through any beneficial association of the two enzymes but is a consequence of the increased rate of conversion of HCOj ion to C02, the ...
