Economic Impact Analysis of Marker-Assisted Breeding in Rice [PDF]

open access: yes
The benefits of developing and releasing salinity-tolerant and phosphorous-deficiency-tolerant rice in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and the Philippines were estimated for marker-assisted breeding as compared to conventional breeding using economic ...

Genomic variation drives plant flavor diversification

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explains how genomic variation shapes plant flavor by altering the biosynthetic and regulatory pathways of key attributes like sweetness, acidity, bitterness, piquancy, astringency, and aroma. It also discusses how multi‐omics, AI‐assisted breeding, and gene editing can translate this knowledge into plants with improved flavor, nutrition ...

Advance of low temperature-response proteomics in rice leaves

open access: yes上海师范大学学报. 自然科学版, 2017
In recent years,high-throughput proteomic investigations have provided important information for understanding low temperature response mechanisms in rice (Oryza sativa L.) leaves.

Viviparous Mutants in Rice, Oryza sativa L.

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Breeding, 1994
Viviparous mutants were obtained among M2 progenies of rice cultivars, Nihonmasari, Norin 8 and Koshihikari after EMS, gamma ray or thermal neutron mutagenesis. Frequencies of germinated seeds on panicles in these mutants ranged from 9.94 to 23.56 % in 1990 and from 4.43 to 24.88 % in 1991.

ZmMS1 coordinates ROS homeostasis, lipid allocation, and male fertility for maize breeding applications

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The redox‐sensitive transcriptional repressor ZmMS1 coordinates reactive oxygen species homeostasis and lipid allocation for pollen exine and anther cuticle formation. Loss or precocious expression of ZmMS1 causes male sterility. Constitutive overexpression induces dwarfism and semi‐sterility. These findings enable flexible maize male‐sterility systems

Effects of lanthanum on growth and accumulation in roots of rice seedlings

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2013
Hormetic effects on the growth were found in the roots of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Shengdao 16) exposed to increasing concentrations of La3+ (0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mmol/L). The results indicated that La3+ promoted the growth of rice roots at 0.05

Fine‐tuning fatty acid composition enhances rice resistance to bacterial blight

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Genome editing to insert an inhibitory element into the 5' untranslated region of the stearoyl‐acyl carrier protein desaturase gene OsSSI2 fine‐tuned fatty acid composition, creating mutants with enhanced bacterial blight resistance while maintaining normal growth and yield.

Natural variation in the GNH1 promoter enhances plant height and grain yield in rice

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Natural variation in the GRAIN NUMBER AND PLANT HEIGHT 1 (GNH1) promoter alleviates repression by the C2H2‐type transcription factor ZFP36, upregulating GNH1 expression and promoting auxin accumulation, thereby increasing rice plant height and grain yield. This elite allele serves as a valuable genetic resource for molecular breeding of high‐yield rice.

The Effect Of Planting Time Of Upland Rice (Oryza sativa L.) On Cassava (Manihot esculenta) Intercropping

open access: yesPlantropica: Journal of Agricultural Science
Cassava (Manihot esculenta) cultivation is often carried out with an intercropping pattern with upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) as an intercrop which is expected to increase production and maximize land use.

OsDIRP1, a Putative RING E3 Ligase, Plays an Opposite Role in Drought and Cold Stress Responses as a Negative and Positive Factor, Respectively, in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
As higher plants are sessile organisms, they are unable to move to more favorable places; thus, they have developed the ability to survive under potentially detrimental conditions.
