Accumulation and phytotoxicity of microcystin-LR in rice (Oryza sativa)

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2012
Irrigation with eutrophic water containing microcystins-LR (MC-LR) poses a potential risk to crops. However, the accumulation of MC-LR in rice grains and the mechanism of MC-LR-induced inhibition in rice roots are not understood. In this study, we detected the accumulation of MC-LR in rice grains collected from Taihu Lake region. MC-LR could accumulate

Sensory contribution of emollient cascades in skin creams evaluated by CATA analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
This work includes emulsion composition and sensory analysis methodology, emollient cascade theory and study results. This study demonstrates how deliberate structuring of emollient cascades can be used as a formulation strategy to modulate both perceived skin feel and product appearance within emulsified systems.

Coupling of both a transactivation module and a double‐stranded DNA‐binding domain boosts Cas12i3 variant‐based cytosine and adenine editing in plants

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Fusions of a transactivation module and a double‐stranded DNA‐binding domain produced effective Cas12i3 variant‐based cytosine and adenine base editors, with improved C‐to‐T and A‐to‐G base editing efficiency and expanded editing window. Generated herbicide‐resistant rice germplasm by using these base editors demonstrates their potential for precise ...

Something old, something new: Evolution of Colombian weedy rice (Oryza spp.) through de novo de‐domestication, exotic gene flow, and hybridization

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, 2020
Weedy rice (Oryza spp.) is a worldwide weed of domesticated rice (O. sativa), considered particularly problematic due to its strong competition with the crop, which leads to reduction in yields and harvest quality.

Enhancing CRISPR‐Cas12a base editing in plants with LbCas12a variants and introns

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Intron optimization of LbCas12a‐RRV improves cytosine and adenine base editing efficiency in plants, supports multiplexed and double‐strand break‐free genome modification, and expands precise genome engineering tools for crop breeding and plant functional research. ABSTRACT Cytosine base editors (CBEs) and adenine base editors (ABEs) are powerful tools

Divergent roles of ent‐kaurene oxidase paralogs in rice momilactone biosynthesis

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Rice contains a five‐gene tandem array of genes encoding members of the ent‐kaurene oxidase (KO) family, with OsKOL4 and OsKOL5 playing divergent roles in momilactone metabolism, but both acting in the production of antifungal and antibacterial phytoalexins, which are important for disease resistance.

Optimized TadA‐derived base editors efficiently manipulate mRNA splicing by A‐to‐G and C‐to‐K editing in potato

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Two optimized TadA‐derived base editors efficiently generate diverse splicing variants by targeting specific splice sites in potato. ABSTRACT Pre‐messenger RNA (pre‐mRNA) splicing is a critical mechanism for post‐transcriptional regulation in plants. Through alternative splicing, plants produce diverse transcriptomes and proteomes that finely regulate ...

Chromosome painting and its applications in cultivated and wild rice

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2018
Background The chromosome-specific probe is a fundamental tool of chromosome painting and has been commonly applied in mammalian species. The technology, however, has not been widely applied in plants due to a lack of methodologies for probe development.

Hormonal regulation of floret closure of rice (Oryza sativa)

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2018
Plant hormones play important roles in regulating every aspect of growth, development, and metabolism of plants. We are interested in understanding hormonal regulation of floret opening and closure in plants. This is a particularly important problem for hybrid rice because regulation of flowering time is vitally important in hybrid rice seed production.
