Coordinating nitrogen application and stubble height improves yield and quality in a forage-grain ratoon rice system

open access: yesCrop and Environment
The forage-grain ratoon rice system enables the harvesting of main crop for silage, followed by the harvesting of the ratoon crop for grain. A two-year study was conducted in Xinyang City, Henan Province, China to assess the effects of nitrogen (N ...

Measuring the Stochastic Monetary Benefits of Multiple Inlet Irrigation in Arkansas Rice Production [PDF]

open access: yes
Irrigation fuel costs represent a significant portion of rice production expenses. Multiple inlet (MI) irrigation represents a water saving alternative to conventional flood irrigation.

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

SCHEDULING INPUTS WITH PRODUCTION FUNCTIONS: OPTIMAL NITROGEN PROGRAMS FOR RICE [PDF]

open access: yes
The problem of scheduling input applications can be examined by extending conventional production function analysis. Using appropriately designed agricultural experiments, it is possible to estimate production function parameters with alternative ...

An international comparison of rice consumption behaviours and greenhouse gas emissions from rice production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rice is a staple food for over half the global population and is mostly produced by smallholders. Rice cultivation at global level is responsible for over 10% of global agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and about 1.3% to 1.8% of the ...

A Virus‐Inducible E3–RLCK–MADS Module Coordinates Suppression of Plant Immunity and Fertility in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Viruses often hijack host developmental programs to promote infection, but the mechanistic links between reproductive regulation and antiviral immunity remain incompletely understood. Here, we identify a virus‐triggered hierarchical degradation cascade that links antiviral immunity and fertility regulation in rice. We show that the rice grassy

Effects of variety degeneration on yield formation, quality traits and 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline biosynthesis in high-quality Japonica rice

open access: yesRice
The main purpose of the present study was to study the degeneration of the high-quality japonica rice varieties during long-term cultivation, with a focus on changes in yield, rice quality and indices related to 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) biosynthesis ...

THE RESPONSIVENESS OF U.S. RICE ACREAGE TO PRICE AND PRODUCTION COSTS [PDF]

open access: yes
Ordinary least squares and seemingly unrelated regression procedures were used to analyze the impacts of changes in rice prices and production costs on U.S. rice planted acreage.
