Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Plant Species Richness and Ecosystem Multifunctionality in Global Drylands

open access: yes, 2012
Experiments suggest that biodiversity enhances the ability of ecosystems to maintain multiple functions, such as carbon storage, productivity, and the buildup of nutrient pools (multifunctionality).

Richness and structure of ant assemblies (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Atlantic forest in southern Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2017
Ant diversity is influenced by the structural complexity of the environment. Ants are thus an ecologically important group due to their potential to serve as indicators of environmental quality.

The richness of language is the richness of thought

open access: yes
In recent years, English has become more than just a school subject in Uzbekistan; it's become an important part of education. Speaking a foreign language offers numerous advantages, including access to top foreign universities, the international labor market, and modern technology. Knowing many languages means having many keys to one lock.

Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.

Effect of summer livestock grazing on plant species richness and composition in the Himalayan rangelands

open access: yes, 2015
Grazing systems in the high Himalayas are changing in response to socioeconomic factors and policy decisions. As well as effects on livelihood of herders, such changes may have significant impacts on plant species richness and composition. The objectives

Diversity of anurans in dry forest fragments of a subtropical region in Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
This study aimed to identify and compare the diversity between two areas within different matrices located in the Mesophytic Semideciduous Forest; to compare composition and diversity registered to other assemblages; and to evaluate which criteria used ...

Latitudinal gradient in Gnomeskelus species richness [PDF]

open access: yesArthropods, 2020
The Tropical Conservativism Hypothesis suggests processes of speciation, extinction and dispersal resulted in higher species richness at the tropics and declined away from the equator. Biogeographical Conservativism Hypothesis suggests that the processes

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Impact scores of invasive plants are biased by disregard of environmental co-variation and non-linearity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Prioritisation of high-impact species is becoming increasingly important for management of introduced species (‘neobiota’) because of their growing number of which, however, only a small fraction has substantial impacts.
