Filament Induction in Escherichia coli by Ricinoleic Acid.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1955
SummarySodium ricinoleate interferes with cell division in E. coli causing the organisms to develop as filaments. The effect appears to be specific and dependent upon the 9:10 unsaturation and the 12-hydroxy group as well as the cis-configuration around the double bond, present in this fatty acid.

A Triple‐Catalytic, Fully Biogenic Synthesis of Cyclic Carbonates

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
A three‐step synthesis of cyclic carbonates from biogenic resources (fatty acids, O2, CO2) is reported. The process operates via a visible light‐mediated hydrocarbon oxidation, with an overall 100% atom‐economy, in the presence of easily accessible catalysts (porphyrin, VO(acac)2, pyridine) but without intermediate work‐up procedures.

Thermal Process of Castor and Plant Based Oil

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Chemistry, 2019
Castor oil is an oil derived from castor seed from a plant Ricinus communis. The versatility of castor oil is highly attributed by 12-hydroxy-9-octadecenoic acid (ricinoleic acid) and its functional group. It is an oil that cannot be consumed by a human.
