Epizootiology of Epidemic Typhus (Rickettsia Prowazekii) in Flying Squirrels
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1978Vector transmission of Rickettsia prowazekii among wild flying squirrels, Glaucomys volans, was suggested by the occurrence of natural infection of squirrel lice and fleas. Lice, mostly Neohaematopinus sciuropteri Osburn, were found infected in the fall in each of 2 consecutive years; 4 of the 8 pools of this insect tested were infected.

[The library of Rickettsia prowazekii genes].
Molekuliarnaia genetika, mikrobiologiia i virusologiia, 1987The DNA of Rickettsia provazekii strain E was cleaved by PstI restriction endonuclease under the conditions of partial restriction. The fragments were inserted into the PstI site of pBR325 and cloned in this plasmid. E. coli strain HB101 was used as a recipient for cloning.

[Probable nature of Rickettsia prowazekii virulence].
Molekuliarnaia genetika, mikrobiologiia i virusologiia, 1996A 29.5 kda outer membrane protein (OmpB) of R. prowazekii virulent Breinl strain is known to differ from its counterpart in attenuated Madrid E strain, while OmpB of this latter one and of its virulent variant EVir coincide in mobility. The infectivity of these strains for macrophages was previously shown to be different as well, and to correlate with ...

Identification of Rickettsia prowazekii using the polymerase chain reaction
European Journal of Epidemiology, 1993Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to identify Rickettsia prowazekii, the etiologic agent of epidemic typhus. For the PCR, Thermus thermophilus thermostable DNA polymerase was applied with buffer containing a relatively low Mg2+ concentration (1.5-2 mM with dNTP's at 250 microM each). A primer pair used to amplify a 448-base-pair (bp) fragment of

Evidence of Rickettsia Prowazekii Infections in the United States
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1980From January 1976 through January 1979 serum specimens from 1,575 individuals were received at the Center for Disease Control and tested for antibodies to rickettsiae. Of these, sera from eight persons gave serological results indicative of recent infections with epidemic typhus rickettsiae (Rickettsia prowazekii). Five of the persons were from Georgia,

[Action of tetracycline and rifampicin on Rickettsia prowazekii and Rickettsia sibirica].
Antibiotiki, 1983The effect of tetracycline and rifampicin on R. prowazekii, strain Breinl and R. sibirica, strain X1 was studied in the experiments with chick embryos exposed to the antibiotic mixture with the infection material. It was shown that tetracycline in doses of 0.1 and 1 mg/embryo had the rickettsiostatic and rickettsiocidic effects respectively on R ...
