Adaptive Immune Responses to Infection and Opportunities for Vaccine Development (Rickettsiaceae)

open access: closed, 2014
Genera belonging to the family Rickettsiaceae, Rickettsia and Orientia, include human pathogens. The diseases they cause are referred to as rickettsioses in this chapter. They share three critical factors with implications in pathogenesis and immunity: (i) they are transmitted by arthropod vectors; (ii) they are obligate intracellular bacteria that ...

Establishing Intracellular Infection: Escape from the Phagosome and Intracellular Colonization (Rickettsiaceae)

open access: closed, 2014
Much progress has been made in one's understanding of the mechanism of rickettsial actin-based motility, although the process of cell-to-cell spread remains poorly understood. This chapter examines historical and recent developments in our understanding of how rickettsiae establish intracellular infection.

Distribution of mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) species and Wolbachia (Rickettsiales: Rickettsiaceae) infections during the bird immigration season in Pathumthani province, central Thailand

open access: closedParasitology Research, 2007
Mosquito distribution in the immigration bird-nested area, Pathumthani province, was investigated from August to December in 2006. Mosquitoes were collected by using CO2-baited Centers for Disease Control light traps in which dry ice was used as a source of CO2 to attract mosquitoes. Six traps were operated from 4 p.m. until 7 a.m.

Natural infection of free-ranging capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) with Anaplasmataecea and Rickettsiaceae bacteria in the Iberá wetlands ecoregion, Argentina

open access: closedVeterinary Research Communications
The current work assessed the infection with Ehrlichia and Anaplasma species, and exposure to Rickettsia spp. in free-ranging capybaras in the Iberá wetlands ecoregion in Argentina. By indirect immunofluorescence assay, 37 out of 51 (73%) capybara sera were seropositive to Rickettsia spp., with 23.5% and 4% samples considered homologous to Rickettsia ...

[Rickettsiaceae infections and fluoroquinolones].

open access: closedPathologie-biologie, 1988
Twenty nine patients with Rickettsiosis (Tick born fever, n: 22, Q fever, n: 7) has been treated with fluoroquinolones. These compounds was used alone n: 25 (Pefloxacin, n: 15; Ofloxacin, n: 10) or associated n: 4 (Pefloxacin + Rifampin). The general efficacy was excellent. Common Tick born fever and pulmonary forms of Q fever was fast cured.
