Optimization of 3D‐Printed Structured Packings—Current State and Future Developments

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
This paper gives an overview about structured packing development for distillation, surveying heuristic development cycles, computational fluid dynamics simulations, and additive manufacturing techniques. The emerging application of shape optimization to improve packings is emphasized, and its benefits, impact, and limitations are discussed.

The number of ramified covering of a Riemann surface by Riemann surface

open access: yes, 1999
Interpreting the number of ramified covering of a Riemann surface by Riemann surfaces as the relative Gromov-Witten invariants and applying a gluing formula, we derive a recursive formula for the number of ramified covering of a Riemann surface by ...

Riemann Problem for Shallow Water Equation with Vegetation

open access: yesAnalele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta: Seria Matematica, 2018
We investigate the existence of the solution of the Riemann Problem for a simplified water ow model on a vegetated surface - system of shallow water type equations. It is known that the system with discontinuous topography is non-conservative even if the

Isoperimetric inequalities on slabs with applications to cubes and Gaussian slabs

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
Abstract We study isoperimetric inequalities on “slabs”, namely weighted Riemannian manifolds obtained as the product of the uniform measure on a finite length interval with a codimension‐one base. As our two main applications, we consider the case when the base is the flat torus R2/2Z2$\mathbb {R}^2 / 2 \mathbb {Z}^2$ and the standard Gaussian measure

Superconformal index with surface defects for class Sk

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2021
We study surface defects in 4d N=1 SU(N) superconformal gauge theories of class Sk obtained from the 6d (1,0) theories of type AN−1, which are worldvolume theories on N M5-branes at C2/Zk singularities, compactified on Riemann surfaces with punctures. We

Application of High‐Order Direct Flux Reconstruction and Stiffness‐Resilient Time Integration to Simulations of Idealized Atmospheric Flows

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
The proposed work implements a direct flux reconstruction method for spatial discretization and a stiffness‐resilient exponential time integration method for temporal discretization on the cube‐sphere grid. A space‐time tensor formalism is employed to provide a general representation in any curvilinear coordinate system. This combination enables highly

Supersymmetric Ground States of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ Gauge Theories on a Riemann Surface

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2022
This paper studies supersymmetric ground states of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric gauge theories on a Riemann surface of genus $g$. There are two distinct spaces of supersymmetric ground states arising from the $A$ and $B$ type twists on the ...

Toward an idiographic understanding of the role of sleep‐mood dynamics in adolescents' internalizing symptoms

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Adolescence is marked by increased vulnerability to sleep disturbances and mood disorders. Understanding how day‐to‐day changes in sleep and mood are linked within the same individual is crucial for clarifying sleep's role in emerging internalizing disorders. However, the extent to which an adolescent's fluctuations in sleep predict

Discrete Riemann Surfaces and the Ising model

open access: yes, 2009
We define a new theory of discrete Riemann surfaces and present its basic results. The key idea is to consider not only a cellular decomposition of a surface, but the union with its dual. Discrete holomorphy is defined by a straightforward discretisation

Approximation of Dirac operators with δ‐shell potentials in the norm resolvent sense, II: Quantitative results

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper is devoted to the approximation of two‐ and three‐dimensional Dirac operators HV∼δΣ$H_{\widetilde{V} \delta _\Sigma }$ with combinations of electrostatic and Lorentz scalar δ$\delta$‐shell interactions in the norm resolvent sense. Relying on results from Behrndt, Holzmann, and Stelzer‐Landauer [Math. Nachr.
