Varieties of Rigidity

Logica Universalis, 2018
The paper surveys and discusses aspects of rigidity of designators in Hintikka's work in modal semantics. The author distinguishes three different variants of rigidity, viz. formal rigidity, semantical rigidity, and linguistic rigidity. The author then argues that these help to explain Hintikka's positions on rigidity and make them more comprehensible ...

Rigid Bronchoscopy

Clinics in Chest Medicine, 2013
Complex airway diseases represent a therapeutic challenge and require multidisciplinary input. Surgery remains the definitive modality. Minimally invasive endobronchial techniques have resulted in symptom control and long-term improvements. The rigid bronchoscope remains the method of choice for the treatment of both benign and malignant central airway

Rigid unification by completion and rigid paramodulation

1994
This paper addresses the problem of computing complete sets of rigid-E-unifiers, initially introduced by Gallier, Narendran, Plaisted and Snyder who gave a proof of its NP-completeness. Our algorithm is based on completion and on a variant of basic paramodulation named rigid paramodulation.

On I-Rigid and q-Rigid Rings

Ukrainian Mathematical Journal, 1998
According to the definition rigid rings have a unit and only trivial endomorphisms. The paper deals with \(I\)-rigid rings (\(q\)-rigid rings) all ideals (factor-rings) of which are rigid. The author describes \(q\)-rigid rings with unit which have no simple non-commutative homomorphic images. All types of non-simple \(I\)-rings with unit are obtained.

Rigid Bronchoscopy

Seminars in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2014
The purpose of this article is to provide an introduction to rigid bronchoscopy (RB). We will briefly discuss its history, evolution, and resurgence while we highlight its versatility and usefulness for today's interventional pulmonologist and thoracic surgeon.

Rigid fluid

ACM SIGGRAPH 2015 Posters, 2015
We present a framework for modeling solid-fluid phase change. Our framework is physically-motivated, with geometric constraints applied to define rigid dynamics using shape matching. In each simulation step, particle positions are updated using an extended SPH solver where they are treated as fluid.

Proto-Rigidity*

Synthese, 2006
What is it for a predicate or a general term to be a rigid designator? Two strategies for answering this question can be found in the literature, but both run into severe difficulties. In this paper, it is suggested that proper names and the usual examples of rigid predicates share a semantic feature which does the theoretical work usually attributed ...

The cholinergic rigidity

Pharmacology & Therapeutics. Part B: General and Systematic Pharmacology, 1976
NUMEROUS accounts have been given on the influence on spinal reflex activity of acetylcholine and cholinesterase inhibitors under different experimental conditions and in various animal species (cf. Machne and Unna. 1963). However, when scrutinizing the early literature, it is hard to obtain satisfying informations concerning a state of rigidity ...
