This approach allows an arbitrary complex permittivity to be used for the material and thus avoids the infinite conductivity (perfect-conductor) approximation. We apply the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) to the simulation of 4π-microscopy. To achieve this, the concept of structured illumination [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A31, 2385 (2014)JOAOD60740-323210.1364/JOSAA.31.002385] is combined with the idea of coherent two-sided light incidence. We show how the latter can be integrated into the framework of the RCWA.

Rigorous coupled-wave analysis for lamellar grating with period modulation

This paper considers the electromagnetic scattering problem of a lamellar grating with period modulation, and presents a formulation based on the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA). The RCWA is originally developed to analyze the plane-wave scattering from perfectly periodic structures, and uses the pseudo-periodic property of the fields.
