Phase Shift Compensation Enables Rainbow‐Free, Ultrawide Angular, and Pattern‐Free Nonreciprocal Thermal Emission

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 8, 24 April 2026.
A pattern‐free nonreciprocal emitter is demonstrated, exhibiting strong nonreciprocity (η > 0.6 or 0.8) across an unprecedented angular range (Δθ = 75° or 60°) at the target wavelength with monochromaticity of Δλ/λ₀ < 0.54%. The wavelength is tunable without compromising the rainbow‐free or ultrawide angular response, establishing a generalizable ...

Modeling full PCSELs and VCSELs using modified rigorous coupled-wave analysis

open access: yes
An integrated rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) algorithm is presented in this paper, which can simulate full vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and photonic crystal surface-emitting laser (PCSEL) structures.

Application of a computationally efficient implementation of the RCWA method to numerical simulations of thin film amorphous solar cells

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents a new implementation of the Rigorous Coupled Wave Analysis (RCWA) method to model the propagation of electro-magnetic waves in nanostructured optoelectronic solid state devices like solar cells.

Complex method for angular-spectral analysis of volume phase diffraction gratings recorded in photopolymers [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2016
Photopolymer recording materials are nowadays widely used for recording of diffraction gratings and other diffraction elements. For obtaining the best performance of these diffraction gratings for desired applications, it is important to assess these ...

Visualizing and Optimizing Phase Matching in Nonlinear Guided‐Mode Resonators With the Green's Function Integral Method

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 8, 24 April 2026.
The Green’s function integral framework provides a unified physical picture of microscopic phase mismatch and introduces a phase‐matching factor (PMF) as a quantitative design metric for harmonic coherence. By rational phase engineering, this approach achieves a PMF of 0.91 and an SHG efficiency of 26.7% in compact nonlinear nanophotonic devices ...

Fabrication of sub-wavelength antireflective structure to enhance the efficiency of InGaAs solar cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Automation and Smart Technology, 2014
Large differences in the refractive index between semiconductors (Si, GaAs, etc.) and air produces considerable Fresnel loss, which can seriously hinder the absorption of sunlight by photovoltaic solar cells.

Highly Enhanced Directional Emission from Emitter‐Integrated Dielectric Metasurfaces: Role of the Emitter Layer

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
Highly enhanced directional emission with narrow angular divergence is experimentally demonstrated from InP/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) and CdSe/ZnS QD‐integrated dielectric metasurfaces. The low intrinsic losses of the InP/ZnS QD layer enable significantly higher emission enhancement when the two QD types are coated on the same metasurface.

Broadband Form Birefringent Quarter-Wave Plate for the Mid-Infrared Wavelength Region

open access: yes, 1999
We discuss the design, fabrication and optical performance of a broadband form-birefringent quarter-wave plate for the 3.5 to 5 m wave-length region. Rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) was used to design the requisite subwavelength grating for silicon

Recomposable Layered Metasurfaces for Wavelength‐Multiplexed Optical Encryption via Modular Diffractive Deep Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 24, 23 March 2026.
Modular diffractive deep neural network metasurfaces encode and reconstruct holograms across layer combinations and wavelengths, enabling secure, multifunctional operation. Each layer acts independently yet composes jointly, yielding up to m(2N −1) channels for m wavelengths and N layers.

Diffraction grating theory with RCWA or the C method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Diffraction gratings are often used in optical metrology. When an electromagnetic wave is incident on a grating, the periodicity of the grating causes amultiplicity of diffraction orders.
